Gambit left Beth Harmon as a Rising Star in the Chess Firmament, clearly at the top of her game but with much development left to do. The entirely of her love life frex was just getting started. Additionally Anya Taylor-Joy remains the most beautiful creature that has ever existed who could carry several seasons as celebrations of eye candy all by herself.

Yes, she is amazingly beautiful. But I thought that her developing more as a player from the end of the season on, wouldn't be as compelling a story as the one told by this first (and maybe only) season, of how she got to that point. I thought that the season ended in a complete story, as in "OK, happy ending, she made it; from now on she will continue to develop, get a boyfriend, have a life." That is not high drama as compared to how she got there so I'm not sure if the author will want to drag this on.

I loved this show, since I did use to play chess myself, in my teen and young adult years. I haven't played in decades but the show brought back those memories; and the eye candy factor made it even more interesting.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lower Decks as well. It's actually more "Star Trek" like than Star Trek: Discovery, the current signature ST show. It also takes the Star Trek canon more seriously than Discovery.

Plus, it's a lot of fun.

To be fair, cannon kinda went out the window in 2009, and Discovery did end up preserving it pretty well in the third season. My only problem with Discovery is the gratuitous overdramatic affection scenes. Right in the middle of swirling armeggeddon, two people will stop to stare longingly into eachother eyes and consternate ad nauseum for the infinitieth time how they can't live without eachother... fortunately I only watch streaming services and can spam the '>>>' button. Makes a lot of shows much better these days!

That's a good observation about the "gratuitous overdramatic affection." I noticed that in the third season, and seemed really over the top and ridiculous. I can only assume they got women writers in the writing room.

I assumed they were trying to keep more women viewers.

More and more reports of children getting hurt from trying to imitate the games in Squid Game. Today, one got hospitalized in Australia. Child Psychiatrists and Psychologists are saying that children shouldn't watch this series.

I just looked it up, you may want to just watch season 1. Apparently season 1 was acclaimed but seasons 2 and 3 were much worse, and disappointing.

It's pure gold. I'm a big Star Trek fan myself, and I've been impressed with just how good semi-parody comedy takes can be. Galaxy Quest was really good and The Orville was pretty good as well, but Lower Decks took it to the next level. Extremely humorous, but also true to the spirit of the brand.

I thought Pose was fantastic. A story that needed telling for sure! And Billy Porter is fantastic!

I watched all three seasons and I agree that season one was best, but I stuck it out. Same thing with Ozark.

I'm currently watching Dopesick and enjoying it immensely. An important watch, I think, as it goes into the origins of the Oxy epidemic and repercussions.

From what I've read Seth MacFarland sold "The Orville" as a comedy/parody of Star Trek but what he really wanted to do (and did) was remake Star Trek the way he envisioned it being. This explains why "The Orville" moved steadily away from comedy/parody from the beginning.

Yes to all. A unique show. Porter is brilliant, especially in the last season. That scene in the last episode where he removes his makeup was a perfect example of how to communicate without words.

I watched the first episode of Lower Decks. To tell you the truth, I didn't laugh, not even once. And yes, I did understand all the jokes and all the references. And yes, I do have a sense of humor. But sorry, I didn't find this first episode all that funny. It didn't motivate me to watch the second episode. I don't know if this thing gets better but if it's more of the same, like the first episode, it's not for me. The Orville, on the other hand, I liked a lot.

The Orville is very enjoyable. By the way, what was made of it? Is there a new season? I haven't seen any commentary about it, for a long time.
    ----------
PS - OK, I googled it, and learned that Season 3 starts on March 10, 2022, on Fox and Hulu. I look forward to it.

My wife actually likes The Orville. And she has never been a science fiction fan.
