I'm not a sci fi fan either, but enjoyed The Expanse thoroughly. I think its the 'alien' part of sci fi that loses me...

I've always wanted to see a Star Trek type series with no aliens.

Sorry to spoil it for you, but there are aliens in The Expanse. You'll see, as the series goes on, based on subsequent books of the series.

But yes, the first several seasons of The Expanse (and first books) are alien-free, and only the politics and conflicts of the three main factions of humans, are depicted. But you do know that the origin of the protomolecule and the portals, is alien, right? Sure, they come from an extinct civilization... but hint: something/someone decimated them...

By the way, season 6 starts on December 10, 2021. I can't wait...

I think it is impressive that seasons 3, 4, and 5 all got a score of 100% in Rotten Tomatoes. It is difficult to keep the quality going, in multi-year series.

Season 6, though, will only have 6 episodes; I wonder why. Is the money drying up? I hope they keep going.

PS - I just learned that Season 6 will be the last one... it's a shame, because the book series keeps going. Oh well, many sci-fi seasons are axed, regardless of popular and critical acclaim. So maybe we just have to be thankful that The Expanse made it this far.

It's a lot of money for a show for a relatively small audience. The only reason we get a season 4-6 is because Bezos was a fan and bought it for Prime.

You know, after I clicked 'post reply', I realized that I was incorrect in saying there were no 'aliens'. I suppose I meant strange looking creatures or robotic beings, but you are correct about the protomolecule.

I watched all five seasons in a binge over a few days, so the wait for season six has been hard. Likely I will watch season 5 again, just to refresh. And yes, I knew it was to be the last season. But I think that's because they've done much and didn't want to get into the tiresome category.

I'm halfway through binge watching a PWB series I just came across tonight called Crashing.
It's about a bunch of 20 somethings living in an empty run down hospital.
In a similar vein to Fleabag but so far not so dark. Phoebe's character is a lot like her role in Fleabag.
If you haven't seen it yet I think you'll like it although it is aimed at a younger viewer than you or me.

I saw it. Anything that Phoebe does is great. I liked it, but not as much as Fleabag. The first season of Killing Eve was also written by Phoebe, and it is great too.

Seinfeld. Literally half their show you can't do now because democrats find everything racist.

I've never gotten around to watching Killing Eve.
Spy thrillers aren't a particular favourite of mine although I did watch the recent BBC series Vigil and mostly enjoyed it.
Maybe I'll give Killing Eve a chance.
Not right now though, Leafs are playing the Flyers.

Wouldn't it be cool to be rich enough to keep the shows you like from going belly-up?

Since Seinfeld is in syndication, it is obviously not the case that, "you can't do now," that type of material, "because Democrats find everything racist." Personally, I was not a fan of Seinfeld, because it was (imagine Jerry's voice & cadence): just... not that FUNny.

I did, however, happen to catch one funny episode: the one in which George does the OPPOSITE of whatever his natural inclination would be.

Oh boy, you're in for a treat. Don't just think spy thriller when you think of the first season of Killing Eve, because it was written by Phoebe, so you'll find there her exquisite brand of humour (gotta use the British spelling for that). The main character, the sociopathic hitwoman, is simply delightful.

I look forward to Vigil but as of now, I was unable to locate it in any of the American platforms. There's been some talk that it will start here in December.

Enjoy the NHL. I watched another Canes game using the site you provided; I'm very thankful for that; it did away with the annoying senseless blackout problem (the game was wild, went to OT, the Canes scored, celebrated, the public left the stadium... then the refs called out the goal due to an offside, and players and public had to come back. Fortunately the Canes scored again, getting the OT win.

I'm a bit puzzled, though. How can that website keep going without attracting the ire of the TV providers? Won't they be eventually shut down? It doesn't look like it's a legal operation.

I have lately been watching (for my first time), reruns of Schitt's Creek.
I had seen the show's first episode, when it debuted, and it looked like a dog. But the 4th season, which I've been currently viewing, shows that it had improved. The comedy element is very mild. It's more just about getting to know the characters. This takes a little time; I'm still not crazy about Cathleen O'Hara's character, Moira, the wife/mother of the family. I hope Comedy Central doesn't now stop airing it.

The shows are done. You can't undo them and the funding to do them is already done. Nobody would go out an make an episode where being gay was the punchline. "not that there's anything wrong with that" or Kramer getting tanned up so badly that he looks like hes' got black face on. Getting caught looking at your boss's daughter's cleavage. Never mind it's leads are like 3 straight white dudes. Can't have that now. Gotta have at least 50 percent of them to be black or gay or some other check box.

    It just wouldn't happen.

See, you can spell properly if you just put in the effort. ;-)

It's hosted somewhere obscure (I forget where) so they can't shut it down.
They do MLB and NFL too I believe.
I've requested that they start doing cricket for me but they don't seem very interested.

Whoa, so, one can watch off-market NFL games? That would be precious. How do we get to that?

I'm a sucker for a good sci fi show, and The Expanse is one of the very best. I assume a lot of that is due to the books, but kudos to the TV people for taking those ideas & making such a great show. I love the way it tries its hardest to be realistic. Rather than just go for jargon laden 'magic' to deal with everything they act as if physics is real. The detail in one show about people dying from internal bleeding because blood can't drain in zero gravity was one of those little things that makes the show so good. In some ways that makes all the proto-molecule aspects more impactful because they really are out of the ordinary.

While I will really miss the show when it finishes, I don't mind that it will only be 6 seasons. Letting a show go on for too long is as bad as ending it too soon (watched the last 3 seasons of the X FIles? Ugh!). I am pleased that it will get a proper ending rather than being pulled off the air abruptly.

Talking of Sci Fi, Foundation is good. I haven't read the books, so I don't know how accurate it is, but it works.

I read the books but so long ago (when I was a teenager), I don't have any recollection other than the memory that the books were exquisite; I remember that this was one of the best ever.
I look forward to watching the show. Someone said it doesn't very accurately render the books but since I don't remember the books, it shouldn't bother me.

I've heard more than one actor and producer say that no television show should last more than five seasons. Almost invariably a show attains its highest quality during the second or third season. Almost every show declines in quality after five seasons..

That 'someone' is correct. Nevertheless, you're in for a sumptuous visual treat.

It is actually produced by American production company, the same one that produced Altered Carbon (a recent sci-fi series that slipped under the radar for most). Despite this, it has more of a distinctive British feel... a bit more like a screenplay.

Dopesick on Hulu is one of the best new multi episode TV shows I've seen in a very long time. Gripping TV based on real life. In real life, the FDA helped cover for addictive pain killer Oxycontin that killed people that took it as prescribed. One higher up even wrote a special label for it claiming it to be addictive to less than 1% of the people that took it. That guy then quit the FDA to work for the drug company at $3-400K per year.
