It started when England decided to populATE it's colony. On arrival the indigenous peoples were quite willing to accommodATE, but instead the English set about to isolATE, humiliATE and exterminATE. The government then tried to assimilATE and show little sign of doing what we should and integrATE.

We need to put in an effort before it's to lATE.

Not sure your idea of how things went in the beginning was exactly right, but that is splitting hairs.

The point in issue is exactly what effort should be made in what areas to unite the nation. Stop the stupid “we have to be acquiescent to everything because that shows tolerance.” and start working together.

The first thing is to stop trying to define a difference in the nation by heritage, colour, state, city, politics, hair length naval gazing and accept we are Australian.

OK, now that is out of the way, Second thing to do is listening to the people and act in their interest. So many people were against the intervention and want to demand the human rights over somebody else who was demanding in the interest of a collective group. The people who are directly involved in the situation had been demanding it for over a decade but the do good morons kept blocking it at every turn… Now it is the Welfare card… Note that NONE of these issues are pure and simply indigenous issues but are often used to suggest racial segregation.

There are many aspects to examine but most of all is not just to show respect but to be respectful of people regardless of your own preconceived notions of who they are.

It is about time we stop playing petty politics with people’s lives by trying to finding divisive ways to segregate each other…

I’ll let you lot argue the points in this. I have made my ideas well known over the years, and feel I have beaten my head against that proverbial wall far too often. Unfortunately.

Just one thing I would like to clear up, and it has annoyed me for some time, as has using the word racism out of context.

Indigenous. This word could be attributed to any person born in this land. Black, white, yellow, purple, blue, whatever. For some reason it is used to describe the aboriginal people, when in fact it is a word that can describe anyone born of this land.

I know it seems pedantic, but context is everything. Especially in the anonymous world of social media.

Now on with the show, I’ll shall watch with interest.

Now play nice boys and girls.

I do take your point, and while yes it does seem pedantic we have to remember we as a nation seem far too ready to create divisions based on the miss construed context of bigotry to racism. A very important difference which does go directly to the problem.

But I don't think this will go far, as it always degenerates when people want to automatically judge others due entirely to, if you don't agree with me, you must be the cause...
