No, I was tempted by fairly good price cuts on the TV's I've considered, but not enough of a discount yet.

We really are headed for a 'perfect storm' in the economy, and along about mid-February I think we're going to see one 'fire-sale' after another on just about everything -- except housing. So, I'm holding out and waiting. And, my six year old 55" Samsung isn't that bad... just has some backlight issues, which Samsung has always had a lot of problems with (you find these things out AFTER you've bought one).

Hint: OLED TV's don't have backlights! I'm looking hard at the LG OLED TV's -- but only at the 'right price'....

I'm presently looking at the Sony X1 serie. But I'm in no hurry since I've yet to finish my HT room reno.

The big box stores and Costco had very steep discounts on that Sony last month, and I was tempted. Sony is still very good, but from what I read, LG OLED is the set to get -- if you could get it at a good price. All OLED TV's are still priced in the stratosphere....

I'm in the market for one since one of my big ass cats knocked over onto the floor a less than year old Samsung (whatever model) limiting it to 3/4s of a screen, bad, BAD kitty. My other not smart one runs my Roku, the Samsung used for antenna connected over the air broadcasts and internet access using wireless keyboard and mouse. Haven't seen a Samsung around here since I got that one, so I'm up to suggestions for a replacement (32'' or up) and money IS a consideration.

The main problem with oled is image retention (burnin). This is a problem if you game on your tv or if you watch channel with banners.

You are definitely right about image-retention (burn-in). It's even more of a problem with OLED sets than it was with the old (but still excellent) plasma TV's. Remember them? Ah, what contrast ratios those things had!

Anyway, I don't 'game' on my TV's (I've got a big, fast computer for that). And, I never leave any image in place on a TV screen for very long. Still, if you watch a movie with 'bars' because of screen-formatting, or in the 4X3 old-style TV format, you would definitely need to be careful with an OLED TV.

Still, if I could score a new model LG OLED 55" TV for around a grand, I'd do it. They're still way more expensive than that....

i prefer dumb tv's cause the smarts should be external, like a roku, that way you update the roku, not the tv

but smart tv's are so much cheaper cause they do get to sell your data

when I look for tv's it's ones that have a good picture and do not reflect the background with a glossy screen (anti-glare), Sony Bravia is what I currently have though pretty old

Too bad LG makes lots of bad ones
    in there production line.
I knew this yet purchased one

A big screen LG I bought had a picture
that looked like someone sprinkled black
    peppercorns over the picture.

I returned it and got a Samsung.

I literally stand in front of all the TV's in the store and decide which one I think has the best picture quality. If it is none on their settings, if I cannot reach it to play with the picture settings, I don't consider it. I don't put a lot of stock in brand names when it comes to TV/monitors. I consider them largely disposable after a few years. I mostly still watch an oldie flat front CRT Sanyo most of the time in my all-purpose room that someone gave me after they couldn't sell it for 5 bucks at a yard sale. I seldom watch the big screen which happens to be a sanyo as well just because I seldom spend time in that room if it doesn't involve snoozing on one of the sofas or recliners.

I like the Sammy Q9 series, but they are pricey! The Sammy Q8 series seems to have nearly all the most-desired features at a significantly lower price, and including better speakers than most of the junk found in today's TV's, and much better full-screen backlighting.

My guess is that after everyone burns through their forthcoming six hundred-buck handout from the government, and next month's rent is still due, the prices of a LOT of things, including TV's is going to drop rapidly. And they won't be coming back up until about a year from now -- after everyone has been vaccinated. Just a guess on my part....
