Well, a lot of Hispanic people do tend to be religious Christians. You can see where a lot of them would be turned off by liberal democrat party.

You know who is even more religiously conservative than Hispanics? Muslims. Guess who gets more than 70% of their vote?

The religious thing in voting seems to apply to evangelical protestant Christians and no one else.

You're welcome to look at that particular study, but there are studies abound showing the same thing - immigrants are more Democratic in 1st generation, and become increasingly less so over time (as compared to 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

The evangelical protestant Christians voting Republican probably has less to do with religion and much more to do with cultural values. The majority of evangelical protestant Christians come from highly red states. Additionally, there are many Catholic, protestant, Jewish, Muslim, etc.. democratic voters. The friends of mine that are devout religious and still vote democrat argue that they are pro-life and believe others should be pro-life, but by their choice. They are against the government forcing people to be pro-life. Finally, they believe that the government should do as much as it can to help the most vulnerable portions of our nation. They do not think that Republicans will do that and cannot vote for them.

I didn't say that, but what I did say was being religious is not a good predictor of voting habits when you include other factors. I am claiming that correlations between religion and voting habbits are spurious. Once you account for other factors, religion probably explains very little.

CA's demographic is too diverse for a white-preferred party to win.

    to be fair longterm the only option you might have is some centrist republican form a third party aiming at the center voters. republicans secretly support sayd party with the aim to steal asmuch of the center voters as possible from the dems in any way possible nationally and local without hurting yourself to much.;
take the state by having more votes then either dems or third party since they get split up it becomes easier to beat and hope dems dont implode with only extreme left stil voting for them
offer sayd third party some spots in goverment

how do you think people win as a minority in other countrys ? by deviding the competition ussually

    Change parties.

I would rather the west coast secede entirely. Maybe you should consider moving.

There needs to be a new political party. We need to get some REAL libertarian candidates to run, who are not career politicians, already corrupted by the system.

That you think this is funny only proves you can't even begin to grasp the depth of the damage done.

My wife was born and raised in California. Why should she have to give up a state she loves just because she is conservative?

There is nothing wrong in fighting to try and change things and make them better. California is not a lost cause but will be if we do nothing.

Well that's precious when you have Pelosi and Boxer and Governor Moonbeam. Are we supposed to take your post seriously?

Asinine and sophomoric post on your part. "They did it first," is a five year old's argument.

That's not "they did it first". Those idiots are STILL IN OFFICE! Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the very definition of insanity.

It turns out there already is one.

Generations of Exclusion: Mexican Americans, Assimilation, and Race

    Some of the findings.

In sharp contrast to assumptions of linear progress underlying conventional assimilation perspectives, the authors find that educational attainment peaks among second-generation children of immigrants, but declines for the third and fourth generations (the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of immigrants). Similarly, economic progress halts by the second generation—education was the only variable to consistently explain variation in the socioeconomic status of Mexican Americans. Poverty rates remained high for later generations, with nearly one fifth of the child sample and two-fifths of the parent sample in poverty in 2000.

The Democrats may hand California back to the Republicans in the next election. A 12-cent increase in gasoline taxes was passed this year for roads and other transportation needs. Funds raised in previous years for transportation needs were diverted to the general fund and spent for other things without voter approval.

In addition, The legislature has now passed a cap and trade agreement which may add as much as 80 cents more to the price of gallon of gas.. Previous explosions in fuel prices pushed California into recession.

The last time Californians found themselves cheated over energy was the electric scare a dozen years ago. Governor Grey Davis handled that problem by throwing tax payer money at it and was removed from office.

Voters can only take so much before they demand a change.

    The O.C since 1964 here.

For the outsiders, understand Orange County California has no Black population to speak of.
Historically and today the Black neighborhoods are on the other side of the county line.
There are Latino neighborhoods such as Santa Ana. We do have Iranians, Chinese - both Taiwan and mainland, Vietnamese, Hindu-Indian, and Arabs too with a major mosque. As these groups mainstream in a generation or two, you see candidates representing both parties.

I do believe Orange County as well as the State of California will Republican again.
Just give the newbies time to mainstream and significant numbers will be GOP.

Sadly our wonderfully conservative newspaper The Orange County Register was sold by Freedom Press and now, it's just there. The old Register was so conservative it would not support NIXON in '72 because he went to China.
Both Goldwater and NIXON liked the O.C. McCain never hangs around much surprisingly.

    Moi :oldman:
The Register came out for decriminalizing :weed:
before it was popular to do so.
