    Yes it was

I am not terribly concerned that Trump will get us involved in a new war.

I don’t see how you can describe repealing affirmative action, for example, as anything BUT anti-minority, since AA is explicitly designed to help minorities. So your denial looks just like denial.

Denying benefits to illegal immigrants is explicitly anti-immigrant, at least of the illegal kind. But more broadly, many legal immigrants took offense, because it affected their friends and relatives, and seemed driven by racial animus more than some legitimate concern.

The only reason you make English the official language is because you’re concerned about a growing number of non-English speakers. And the only reasonable source of those non-English speakers is immigrants.

No, that was viewed as anti-minority, because it meant that a crime was punished more severely if there was a gang connection, and because most gang members are minorities (it’s sort of an axiom, given the dynamics of why gangs form in the first place), that meant minorities often being punished more severely than whites for the same crime.

It’s kind of how the crackdown on crack cocaine led to blacks being jailed for cocaine possession WAY more often and for longer periods than whites, because the crack form of cocaine was more popular with blacks, while the powder form was more popular with whites.

So yes, those measures, intentionally or not, were seen as either anti-immigrant or anti-minority. Which was politically moronic.

I'm pragmatic enough to know that as of now, there is about a 50/50 chance the Dems will gain control of the house. I wouldn't call that "resignation".

The question for you is, are you pragmatic enough to know that the Dems might NOT gain control of the House? Or are you on the left going to repeat your follies of 2016?

As an Independent I am unconcerned about the fortunes of the Dem party itself. Instead I am primarily rooting for those candidates who are running on the platform that Sanders brought to the table because that is where I see real positive change for We the People. It appears that there might be a least one of whom is running on a GOP ticket while all of the others that I have encountered are running as Dems.

What matters to me is whether this "Bernie faction" gains enough seats to alter the direction of the House regardless as to which party is in control. If they fail we are screwed and if they succeed we stand a decent chance of moving the nation back in the right direction and away from the hatred, anger and divisiveness of the GOP.

The dems will probably just block any legislation Trump tries to do and basically do what the Republicans did when Obama was president. They will probably talk a lot about investigations and impeachment but never actually get this to happen. Republicans did this with Obama, but Trump is a much more impeachable guy, however I don't think they have the votes.

I think it's a near certainty Trump will be impeached, although it remains to be seen whether the Senate will vote to remove him.

In terms of positive things, the House should be able to pass immigration reform. and reinforce the ACA.

Your post sounds remarkably familiar. Did you happen to get the details from your Republican friends who did precisely what your post predicts, while they had Obama as their President?

The Dems will not pick up enough seats in the Senate to remove.

we really just need a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage, unemployment compensation for being unemployed on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States, and Industrial Automation to help with social costs.

When the Democrats take control of the House this coming January, their first and only priority should be to impeach Trump. I would hope the Republicans (...and if I were the majority leader I would) request that impeachment be the first and only order of business in the House.

An impeachment bill could be passed and delivered to the Senate for trial in about two weeks. Just get it done.

In the Senate there needs be no debate, just action. The trial could start within two days of receiving the impeachment bill from the House. A vote by the jury could be taken the very next day.

    Let's get this done......NOW!

Indeed - this will free up Trump for at least two years and he can finally accomplish something.

Have a celebration party. Nothing is going to pass in the Senate so it doesn't matter.

Go get a snack and a nap. Nothing partisan from a dem house will get through the senate. Gotta love that gridlock.

Correct. Partisan bills should never become law. Good law requires that both sides of the aisle agree on what is best for the country. Lucky for us, they rarely do.

    1. HAHA
    2. You can try
3-9. The House doesn't pass laws.

Now, other than help Trump get reelected, what are Democrats real plans?

So he hasn't accomplished anything yet? And why would this be a requirement for accomplishing something? Why not just do it now?

Trump has gotten more done for America and the American people in his not quite too years in office than the past 4 Presidents combined.
