I suppose about the closest I've come to collecting anything is guitars. My first was a used orange burst birds-eye Ovation acoustic that I picked up from Guitar Center back in 2000. This was followed by a Custom Shop Les Paul I found on Ebay and that was followed by a Fender American Stratocaster that I bought from a guy at work. I've picked up a few others since then. They're all pretty nifty, I can't play worth a damn though, so that kinda sucks.
I have a sterling 1964 quarter but no Kennedy half dollars I don't know about the half dollars but 64 was the cutoff year for Sterling quarters probably the same. I have a few wheat pennies couple of world war II nickels but not many coins
Pretty nifty Ovation there. None of those are super-valuable yet probably good players. I have something like that myself these days. It's no Jackson strat with a Kahler I and a fret and intonation job like I used to have where the guitar was better than me. It went to a fitting owner and he paid me a fair price for it. The dude rips and the guitar is kickass and I think he paid me $440 for it. I probably had $760 in it all total, but I suck..lol! Oh! I put active humbuckers in and everyhting. Yeah,, that was over $300 EMG Active double humbucker pickups and they had to be wired.
. I'm a collector. Over the years, I have collected different things that cost me money. Then one day I decided to use my desire and ability to collect to collecting money... not valuable old or expensive gold coins... just ordinary money. I create goals and plan out to save and/or earn so much by a certain date and keep records accordingly. I find I enjoy doing this more than collecting "things." .
To each their own! What one collects doesn't have to be worth a whole bunch of money, it just has to be something neat that you like to collect. For instance, I have old bullets, but no arrowheads or shark's teeth arrowheads. Some people do old cars. Some people do bottles.
I have a ton of fossils from the bone valley region of Florida that I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours digging from the Peace River I have a thread somewhere around here though damned if I can find it it's full of pictures of them

Quite an unusual hobby.I think,If not mistaken the older the Champagne bottle the thicker.Dom Perignon used to be about the most expensive champagne in the U.S.Ragardless,over the last decade with more and more Millionaires things like exotic cars and mansions w/ 6 car garages, custom swimming pools { Pro Athletes,Hollywood stars and now certain Lobbyists like John Boehner } nothing is beyond price. I remember back over 35 years ago I Liquor store I used to go outside my town.Since my city was Dry,I had to cross the country border to a place where there were 2 competing Liquor stores across the street from each other. That store always had at least one bottle of Dom Perignon high up on their shelf.I remember it was $ 99.That was pricey back 30 + years ago. Then one day there was this guy who had bought a bottle and was talking about getting another bottle. He was hooked. However he was a cabbie { cab driver }. I think a bottle of Dom took up most of a weeks pay. But he didn't seem bothered. He was gonna keep getting Dom Perignon as long as possible.I figured the guy was never really educated.Probably dropped out of high school.Even Oligarchs { those like a Ted Turner } who once was The Biggest Land owner in the United States, worries over price. It's a myth that the Rich and Famous aren't concerned over Price. I guess it helps to pay for a bottle of Dom Perignon if Blind. That a way who knows from what.
Me too. I have quite a large library... a few books that are old, rare, and one-of a kind. But books take up too much space, so I stopped collecting them. Collecting most "things" takes up too much space. This is another reason why I began using my collecting urges/skills to collect MONEY [digitally]... and I'm trying hard to be a hoarder .
I collect Antique Mexican Horse bits, and spurs. I was raised, around, and apart of cowboy/vaquero culture. I probably have the smallest collection ever, since getting your hands on original Garcia Bits, and spurs is pricey. I admire good craftsmanship.
Do those spurs have balls instead of sharp goads to spare the horse.? I never thought of that but it stands to reason you would have something like that instead of injured horses all the time. Or is that how they work at all? And this reminds me of the famous quote: " the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth that the mass of mankind has not been born, with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god." Thomas Jefferson
