Start out by banning two weapons, then a little later ban another that is similar, etc.

That is one tactic, but the 2012 bill in question was more like the reverse. It banned virtually all of the guns that the left hates most with a few exceptions like the Mini-14. It was more like the thick end of the wedge.

The NRA was unable to fund an effective campaign against the most recent gun control bill in WA state. I-1639 passed with 60% of the vote.

The problem is that the bill violates both the WA and the US constitution, according to 11 (so far) of the states 27 County Sheriffs who (at the behest of their constituents) have publicly stated a refusal to enforce the law.

The NRA did not prompt these rural Sheriffs to rebel against the will of the Seattle-metro voting block, their local constituents did that.

Melbourne's not ultra-pacified. Here in Australia most people value their lives over property. So last night when a student who's living with me was threatened with a knife while the supermarket she works at was robbed, the first thing I did was ask if anyone had been hurt. Alternate universe me, who's an American who has loaded guns lying round jus in case someone ever breaks in , shrieked at her that she should have pulled a semi automatic on the teenagers who robbed her and despite being terrified shot **** up just in case some random American thought she was weak for not protecting the booze and smokes and cash. Then I would have locked her out of the house for being so weak and dobbed her into the NRA.

Thankfully in the real world I'm an Australian who is so relieved my girl wasnt injured and she complied and emptied the till. No amount of money or smokes is worth her playing at being a hero and putting her life at risk. I hate the American gun culture and the endless massacres that happen there and never want Australia to be like that.

I think you speak for most of us look at the responses on this thread. The majority say “ no way do we want an American style gun culture BTW thanks for setting up the wonderful bad example “

Humans are similar to house pets where you live. Petting them in what appears to be your opinion tames them.

You see our homeowners as evil who try to keep the good people from getting our possessions.

Do you actually believe that when people advocate for self defense they're trying to 'protect the booze and smokes and cash'?

Weapons dont protect anyone. They aid people in more effectively protecting themselves and others.

Do any of your law enforcement personel carry firearms on duty?

Yep, amongst other possessions. It seems to me that to way too many people in the US, human life is far less valuable than material possessions.

I think its a well known fact worldwide that Americans have absolutely no regard for human life.
In fact, I believe they are quite callous towards one another...but hay...thats just me.....

Nah, not just you. Conservatives seem to be the worst though. One of the worst examples is the way parents of the little kids murdered at Sandy Hook have been threatened and stalked, and the kids who survived the school massacre last year being bullied by Fox News personalities.

Our cops carry guns but the last cop that pulled a gun on a speeding driver was stood down

    Why?

Do you suspect they carry guns for different purposes than most American civilians do? If so, why do you believe that?

    Yep sure do!

Our cops use guns more frequently on feral animals than feral humans.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-21/justine-damond-mohamed-noor-police-officer-charges/9573122

The cop that pulled the gun on the driver was stood down because it was found he had no reason to do so

Of course our police do not expect a citizen to be armed therefore they have the ability to use lesser force methods
