The Constitution should be amended to abolish birth-right citizenship. Unless one of the biological parents is an American citizenship, there should be no automatic citizenship by virtue of being born here.

I would be careful when that starts and everything does go on the table they could change a lot. Right to bare arms will most likely be curtailed, freedom of religion could be attacked. We all know that the right to privacy has been a thorn in many peoples sides. There is no guarantees. Sure everything could work out fine. But speaking from a perspective of history most of the time things do not work out fine. Then you have violence. Politicians follow the money and the money and our civil liberties rarely coincide.

What do you mean specifically by "editing?"

Congress will disagree, they will disabuse the Convention of any authority, and move right along.

The constitution was trashed by the patriot act under Bush, and Barack did away with habeas corpus. So what's new?

It seems the majority of folks who support altering constitution also think Russia got Trump elected.

I wanna know why they dont think Russia will end up re-writing our constitution if we open it up for alteration.

Im against it. We managed a tidal surge to elect Trump (it wasn't Russia) but I dont think we, as a nation, can depend on that again. Yet.

A concon would be too easily subject to manipulstion by the monied interests that we have yet to expel from our system of representation. Leave the constitution alone for now.

I doubt they could do that.

But, the requirement of agreement by 3/4 of the states makes the convention idea nonsense, at least for the forseeable future.

What is really weird is the idea that the inability to agree on even just one amendment could be overcome by agreeing to toss the cards in the air.

Editing the Constitution has about as much effect as does my posting here...

Yes it was. Which has nothing to do with my position on guns.

I'd get rid of the 17th amendment and return to actual federalism.

A convention would be a complete mess.

Just look at the things states would agree on.

Taxes going to the federal government, most of those would be changed to go to the states.

Federal oversight of states in areas such as power, land use, environment......basically the entire commerce clause would be removed.

Its just beyond imaginable. Once that flood gate is open the water will pour in.

If "being like" other nations applies to immigration, then it surely applies to guns.

After all, other nations have gun violence under far better control.

Not even remotely rationally related. And weak equivocation at that.

    RW propaganda.

The only time we had a balanced budget in the past 6 decades is after the Dems raised taxes in 1993.

They would still have to agree.

I very seriously doubt 3/4 of the states would agree on any conceivable change to the constitution.

For example, there is no currently proposed amendment that has any chance.

lol - I agree that your style of comparison to other countries makes no sense at all.

    But, that was my point.

Why doesn't the US have a right to control its borders?

It does. I repeatedly advocate for controlling our borders. I praise Obama for being the first president in DECADES where the undocumented population has not grown!

The question is how to proceed.

When we decide to spend tens of BILLIONS of dollars on something, there needs to be an actual, real, documented justification.

And, we do NOT have that.

Our deficit grows and our opportunities are reduced when we make hugely expensive mistakes such as this.

And, you probably wonder why government is inefficient!!

It's stuff like THIS that makes it so.

The chance of that happening is somewhere between minuscule and zero. It's way more likely that swamp creatures will try to sabotage the process with poison pill amendments that they know don't have a chance in hell of being ratified.

Where the hell do you get that idea?

They'll say so because it is so.

An Art V convention will not be held anytime soon, so relax, people.
