Yeah, I think if you are going uber high end like LaRue and such then brand matters.

Debates lik eBushmaster vs. DPMS and such are pointless.

When I was in a private school the drill team that I was in used 1903 Springfields. They
were balanced so we could throw and twirl them.

I forget what we had in HS for ROTC, probably the same, but I remember being on the drill team and twirling them. Quite fun.

    We lived ROTC 24/7.

We were in New Orleans during the Mardi Gras. Imagine High schoolers in NO.

I was in ROTC during the Vietnam war and remember marching for HS and getting tomatoes thrown at us.

Most JROTC/ROTC rifle drill teams use a demilitarized m1903 with the m1 a close second. I did lots of D&C in AFROTC, without rifles, and was not a member of the drill team. . I do know they used m1903s.

Both the 03 Springfield and M-1 Garand are well balanced rifles. Even the M-14 is well balanced but not as much as the M-1 Garand.

Not for throwing in the air with multiple twirls. The O3 Springfield we used was plugged for
    balance and not for shooting.

    Try again?

I'm referring to well balanced battle rifles on the battlefield or rifle range.

When a buddy of mine handed me his H&K 91 I mentioned how unbalanced the rifle was. He gave me a funny look until I handed him my M-1 Garand and then a Springfield Armory M-1A and now he knows what a well balanced rifle is.

The 03 Springfield and Mauser Kar 98 are also well balanced rifles while the M-16, AK-47 are not well balanced rifles.

All I see are a bunch of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) guns on this thread. This is my baby...the ONLY disadvantage is that I have to haul it around with a red wagon.

Isn't that a bit like buying insurance AFTER the incident? By the time you know you are at risk, you're 6' under. Unfortunately, assessment and reality are often two different things.

    Here's my baby:

    I've got a .38 revolver, a .40 pistol and about 18 Civil War, WWI & WW2 era rifles & pistols.

All of the rifles have had their firing pins removed and are display only. The prize which has eluded me since I began collectng historic rifles is the the M1941 Johnson Rifle (30.06). Not many were made, around 24,000, the Johnson rifle competed with the M1 Garand and lost.

An M1941 in very good condition will run you anywhere from $5K - 7K. I can't justify spending that much, even if I could afford it. So I'll probably never own one, but a person can dream I suppose.

Man you have good taste. The last 1941 Johnson I seen fore sale in person was $3,500.00 and that was in 2012.

Currently 3 are available on Guns International website but bring $5,000.00 + to the table.

    Beautiful rifle:

Love it. Solid build, cycles EVERY time, zero jams or misfires. Shoots pretty much any shot I run through it. What purpose do you want it to fulfill?

No actual purpose at the moment. I love shooting clays and I'd love to go out and hunt some ducks.

Thanks for that info, that just made my decision easier. My grandfather just gave me an old browning, over-and-under. It looks awesome. Still haven't taken it out yet.

Yeah I asked because they have a ton of different configurations. Shorter barrels with different grips for home defense, more traditional builds for hunting, etc... lots of aftermarket parts to make it look unique and function exactly the way you want.

If you're truly living in Baton Rouge, you're foolish. Think about the aftermath of hurricanes, where there is no power and no telephone service...... I do agree, I don't need self defense type guns most of the time, but post-hurricane, they are comforting.

The two latest additions - Henry Golden Boy with Hex barrel, and an over/under 20GA made by Kahn. The 20ga was a Christmas gift, haven't even shot it yet, I've been told Kahn makes a pretty poor quality gun. The Henry is nice, fun to shoot, accurate, really smooth action.

Anyone have experience with Kahn Shotguns?
