I have a "permit" for a Romulan Scramasax that puts a Klingon disruptor to shame. It has a special setting that instead of stun, makes the target want to either pole dance or break dance. And the OP is bragging about having a Vz 58.

Sweet! And all I have is this surplus Federation phaser from the original Star Trek era. At this point in time even on the highest setting it will barely even heat up a modest sized boulder and the charge for it lasts no time at all. Sigh!

I've got the answer. Look on Amazon and they are selling 6 packs of used/very good condition Federation phaser energy packs for a righteous price. But you have to pay in Federation credits.

Let's see. I've got kitchen knives. There's a couple of brooms and some garden stakes for the tomatoes. The stakes would come in handy against vampires but they can't walk in uninvited anyway. The brooms work well to put big spiders out when they're too high up the wall to put a glass over and a sheet of paper under..

It's probably a good thing I'm not an American because let's face it, I've got nothin.

Thankfully we just don't seem to have anywhere near as many bad guys in Australia as you seem to have in America.

Don't get me wrong, we have crime, both against property and person, but our criminals just don't seem as hell bent on murdering us in our beds as American criminals seem to be.

Apparently Canadian criminals aren't into murdering citizens in their beds either. Most criminals throughout the world aren't. It seems to be a very American thing.

since there's only a very few 100 men in the US who are capable of handling such a situation (with nothing more than a handgun) it's extremely unlikely that one will be there when you need him. Most of such men will sensibly just herd their own families out of harm's way and go on home, too. The ones you save will be the first ones to sue you for PTSD you "caused" by braining someone in front of them!

VERY few SWAT guys are actually skilled enough and the top IPSC and IDPA hands know better than to get involved, unless they are cornered in some way.

Bed side, Polytech Mak 90 (You know, the 386 stamped Norinco with full auto bolt carrier factory) Fully railed, replaced the synthetic stock and foregrip with a mahogany match one of my local friends created.

    Somewhere else, a .45 ACP 1907 Phillipino.

    Corner, PPS-43c.

My safes are full at the moment and I have a good bit elsewhere, but hey, that's for another discussion.

Pepper spray and a telescope baton. They're not meant for home defense though, but rather for defending myself from cops or nazis.

You assault a cop with a baton then prepare to get shot.

Self defense isn't assault and I'm glad the pigs in my country aren't as trigger happy then. If a pig randomly punches me in the stomach again (they like punching girls for some reason) he will get some pepperspray right into his face.

Guns are not automatic. Accurate shooting when the crap hits the fan is as much a function of muscle as anything. If you aren't willing to put a minimum of fifty rounds a week down range don't buy a gun. By the way that's only the beginning. Having a gun and being a good shot puts you in the Spiderman position, you now carry substantial power, you'd best accept that you now carry, along with that pistol, a butt load of responsibility. Just for openers learn to think tactically in any and every situation. It isn't about being paranoid it's about keeping you and others safe, especially when the chips are down.

Oh one last thing full autos are fun on the range provided you can afford to burn through a couple hundred bucks in less time than it took me to write this but it is way down on my list of home defense choices. I want to defend my house not shoot it to pieces. There's a reason the last model M-16 uses 3 round bursts rather than full auto.

Lol, I didn't put 50 rounds a week down range when I was in the army.

Nor did I but I was a ballistic meteorologist. Most don't way back but that's probably why it cost us 90 K per dead enemy soldier we produced we were all stuck on spray and pray. Dear hunting buddy of mine used to spend more than that getting his rifle ready for dear season. Back when I was thinking about getting seriously into small bore rifle shooting way back before I got married me and a friend of mine easily shot fifty rounds a week and a lot more some weekends but that was back in the days when a 1000 rounds of twenty two ammo was about 10 bucks...

But its up to you it's your wife and kids that might some day stop a stray bullet because you didn't practice enough and during a (*)(*)(*)(*) hit the fan moment you jerked that trigger instead of squeezed it. Training, like it or not matters. You know probably 80% of the dudes went a shore on D-Day had never fired a shot in Anger before in their lives but they kick themselves some serious German veteran ass. How did that happen? They had been trained six ways from Sunday.

Do you have evidence that cops as a whole like punching people randomly?

I've also got a glock 30s.. one of my favorite carry pieces. But i tend to carry either an LCR 9mm, or a SCCY 9mm, since they are smaller & lighter.

For HD, i have several pistols loaded in the safe, as well as some full mags for the AR, or a vepr 12ga. I also have a vz-58.. at least the century arms version.. in semi auto. I like it better than most ak's. I'm more of an aficionado.. i live in a small town, with low crime. I seldom carry, but have a firearm reasonably close most of the time. there is a S&W model 10 revolver in the file cabinet next to my desk. I have never needed to use a gun in self defense, & hope to keep it that way.

I have a new HD firearm on order.. if it will ever ship.. :( the mossberg shockwave.. looking forward to putting some shells through it, & maybe reloading some 'shorty' shells. I think this might take over in the home defense department. I'll find somewhere to stash it in the bedroom, & it would be a very formidable weapon.

Only anecdotal evidence sadly. It's basically impossible to hold them responsible for these things since the police has a privileged status in our society. I doubt that there have been any studies on this either.

I live in the far western US. I own a: 1945 Colt Model 1911 (2 of them), a MAKARAV, a Browning Hi-Power, a P-38, a few Ruger revolvers, an Artillery Luger, a Colt SA, a Smith No 10, a Garand, A few M1 carbines, an SKS, a few Mauser rifles, a Ross Straight Pull, old Sharps, Spencer and Winchester rifles, a Schmidt Rubin 1911, an old Hall, a few muskets, A Winchester Model 100, Model 70, 67, 12, and 97. A few Parkers, an LC Smith, a half dozen Remingtons, Smith and Wesson pistols galore and on and on to a number of about 250. I shoot constantly, skeet, targets with rifles and pistols and flying birds. I spent 30 years in combat arms in the military. Guns are all in safes except for the one or two I keep out in case I need to shoot someone, which I hope doesn't happen, but if it does....oh well.
