Folks that do honest work for forty hours a week certainly deserve what they earn. But if that forty hours is spent digging ditches as opposed to doing the work of an electrician or a plumber... or an executive, doctor, or lawyer... they should be paid what they are worth. Heck, everyone should be paid WHAT THEIR LABOR IS WORTH. To do otherwise would be unfair. It's all about what one's labor IS WORTH.

And THAT principle (meritocracy) is what this nation is based on. As the Founders' so famously said... "all men are created equal". After that, we all have the opportunity to be bums or stars.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that ALL ditch diggers found OTHER jobs that paid them living wages with benefits and there was NOBODY left to dig ditches.

So the HOUSES end up FLOODED and CHOLERA spreads and people DIE.

How much is the LABOR worth of a ditch digger under those circumstances?

Everyone now NEEDS a ditch digger so suddenly anyone who wants to be a ditch digger will be PAID a LIVING wage with BENEFITS.

The FALLACY that ditch digging is "worth less" than other ESSENTIAL work is the PROBLEM here.

WHO gets to DICTATE what that LABOR is WORTH and therefore can EXPLOIT the LABOR of those HARDWORKING Americans?

Labor, like anything else, is worth what someone will PAY FOR IT. If I need a ditch dug, I will pay some folks as much as they will accept to do the job. No one is denigrating anyone. Its simply how business is done. Plumbers, electricians and the rest work the same way. If I have a job that needs doing, they will submit a BID from which I will select the one to do the job.

This has nothing to do with greed or billionaires. Its how the world works. Thats how it works when businesses build/run stores, or a homeowner needs his lawn sodded. If someone doesn't want to sod lawns, they can go to school and become an electrician. If the electrician doesn't want to be an electrician, he can go to school and become an engineer. If the guy who doesn't want to sod lawns wants to earn more money, he can go to school and eventually become a doctor or a lawyer... its up to him/her. But someone that has no more ambition than to dig ditches or stock shelves, should understand that it is THEIR CHOICE to earn a lower wage.

I don't know where these folks are looking to work. I worked in aerospace for decades after an Army career before I retired. Pay and benefits were great. Competition for the companies was tough. I was actively recruited by Lockheed while working for Boeing, recruited by CUBIC while working for Lockheed, recruited by Northrop-Grumman constantly. Pay was great and benefits too.I had triple bypass surgery in 2014, cost about $500,000... company medical picked up every dime. I would suggest the people you are talking about get a degree from a name brand college (college name counts) in engineering, physics and such. Avoid the "Women's Studies", philosophy, history, English, and plain jane "business" degrees.

 

What Antifa, BLM and Soros are doing doesn't come close to civil war. The Trumpist riot on Jan. 6th comes much closer to the mark. But on the plus side most Trump supporters are too invested in the way their world works right now to pick up arms to change it. Soros, BLM & co. are also too comfortable to want real change. It should be noted here that the aftermath of most revolutions is not pretty. Look at the French revolution as an awful example.

 

Civil War means putting on uniforms, American Marxists will never do that! It would be suicide!

So, with a standard that is wide open to drastically different interpretations, it should be clear that your poll's results will be meaningless.

Perhaps your example of, "how Ireland was in the 80s and 90s," would be a helpful guide, to clarify your intent but, as that now stands, it only dispels the ambiguity for those who are well acquainted with Ireland, during that period (which, I would predict, is limited mostly to just those who lived in Ireland or the UK, at that time). So, would you please elaborate, with sufficient detail to put the rest of us on the same page, with what you are picturing?

Your "facts" are tainted. My generation was big on getting engineering degrees as well as degrees in math, physics, chemistry and such. My generation didn't get just a "college degree", we got USEFUL degrees. Degrees which would lead to the manufacture of things which could be sold FOR A PROFIT. Things like a degree in "Women's Studies" didn't even exist. When you say millennials are well educated, be careful. Many degrees they have aren't worth much in the market place.

A few years ago as I was deciding exactly when to retire, and I was living in San Diego... I was contacted by the California state education folks. They asked if I would be interested in teaching high school. It seemed they were knee deep in millennials with history, English, philosophy and other "fluffy" degrees, but they were having trouble finding folks that could teach math and science. Well, to make a long story short, I was certified as a high school Physics teacher with not a single "education credit" at all, on the strength of my engineering degree. I taught in a regular town high school for a year and in the juvenile correction system for a year. It was a valuable experience but I ended up going back to industry for more money.

So when you say millenials are "better educated"... be careful. "Fluffy" degrees have little value in the marketplace and are not the key to success.
