In your opinion, what is the purpose and intent of the solemn and uplifting 9-11 ceremonies we are witnessing this week?

From my perspective, the 9-11 ceremonies are intended to remind us how fortunate we are to live in a great and wonderful country like America. These ceremonies are meant to remind us of the tremendous sacrifices and hardships our parents and grandparents had to endure to give us the privileges and opportunities and the magnificent standard of living we enjoy today.

These ceremonies are meant to remind us of the tremendous sacrifice the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 made to save their fellow countrymen and prevent the very determined 9-11 terrorists from flying the fourth airplane into the U.S Capitol building or the White House.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

These ceremonies are meant to remember and honor our friends and countrymen who perished in the Twin Towers and in the offices of the Pentagon on 9-11.

These ceremonies are not so much for our benefit, but for the benefit of our children and grandchildren so they too will realize what a privilege it is to be an American and enjoy the freedoms and liberties and opportunities that are denied to so many people who live and merely exist from one day to the next in so many other parts of the world.

    Two fold.
#1. Some of the things the OP posted.
#2. To generate revenue and profits.

It really bugs me how the networks are running "sensationalized" footage of Sept 11. It does not need clever editing. it does not need to be set to music. It is not a fictional film.

    Interesting comment, shhs97.

How do you feel about what the terrorists did to us on 9-11?

In your opinion, why did they do this and what did they hope to accomplish?

What do you think they thought our response would be to their attack?

When it comes to these important questions, I have heard no discussions or analysis at all by the liberal press. Why are they so silent on these issues?

I feel nothing but disgust and contempt.

The 9/11 ceremonies are to commemorate murder victims and help those left behind deal with the tragedy. Poor countries have ceremonies to remeber their dead. Even in totalitarian regimes people take time to commemorate their dead.

Quit using this tragedy to push your distorted right wing extremist views. We are getting sick of it!

    You comments are very interesting,

What make you and your liberal buddies think the 9-11 ceremonies are "right wing extremist" views?

What in your liberal mind is "sick" about remembering the innocent Americans who died during the terrorists attacks on 9-11? Do you and yuor liberal firends feel the same way about the 2,386 Americans who died during the terrorists attacks on 12-07-1941?

Do you actually read much liberal press? And no, the mainstream news does not even remotely count.

The underlying message to the American public is:

    Be afraid.

    Be very afraid.

    We will save you.

I don't think that's what he said. He said you were using the tragedy to push your own views, and that the ceremonies had a different purpose than the one you were ascribing to them. He wasn't attacking the ceremonies, he was disputing your interpretation of them.

It's always good, if unpleasant, to remember these sorts of things.

I don't know if Pearl Harbor qualifies as a terrorist attack, though. It was a clear and logical (albeit stupid) military operation designed to reduce our naval power in the Pacific. It wasn't designed to scare us, it was designed to stop us before we could get started. Unfortunately for Japan, we're unstoppable. I can see why that didn't occur to them. Anyway, while the attack on Pearl Harbor was clearly wrong in a moral sense, I don't think that automatically makes it a terrorist action. Terrorism has a specific definition that shouldn't be politicized.

    Yes.

Thank you for asking, Daybreaker (aka. Sleepwalker).

I enjoy studying Obama's ideology and the liberal mindset and sharing what I have learned with the other independents, conservatives and centrists in our group.

I am not attempting to convince our liberal friends of anything. I refuse to waste my time on this impossible endeavor!

    You are very mistaken, Daybreaker.

The unannounced attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese was an act of terror against the U.S. Seventh Fleet.

Therefore the attack on Pearl Harbor was a terrorist attack.

By the way, here is why most liberals have a difficult time expressing themselves and often are very dizzy when it comes to organizing their thoughts and thinking clearly!

Do you see a difference between a terrorist act and any military attack?

An unanounced military attack against a peaceful nation is the same thing as a terrorist act.

This analysis was also very good when it comes to understanding the liberal mindset.

I think you hit the nail on the head right here.

So, ditto because I couldn't add anything better than that.

The be-very-afraid part sounds a tad like terrorism, no?

Somehow it feels like regular news are being highjacked.

    Thank you, Sir!

The liberals are not smart enough to figure this out.

Bill Clinton got it right though. In his prepared speech, he said he wanted Americans who are alive 2500 years from now to remember this terrible incident and what can happen when our freedoms and liberty are threatened.

I do not get that at all.

I didn't see any partisanship in his post. Saying that we should be grateful to live in such a great country is now 'right wing?' News to me.

I thought traffic was bad for the U.S. Open. Getting in and out of the city in the last few days has been an utter nightmare!

No. We announced what we would do after they attacked us.

We went to the United Nations and our actions for a counter attack were approved by the world community.

The terrorists (al-Qaeda) declared war on us. We had no choice but to teach them a hard lesson that you don't perform an unannounced sneak attack on free, democratic people.

By the way, what do you suppose the terrorists (al-Qaeda) intended to accomplish by their 9-11 attacks? In your opinion, how do you think they thought we would respond?

By the way, this description of a typical progressive obviously applies to you.

    Thank you, Sir!

I'm surprised they scheduled the U.S. Open during the 9-11 events.

Not very smart plannig on their part!

Funny, I don't remember the UN blessing Iraq, or Iraq attacking us. Are we attacking other UN nations? Just because the UN, whom I assume you don't like, says it is ok, does that mean it's ok?
