I live in Illinois (obviously a very blue state) and in order for me to get my ballot mailed to me I had to request it.
Are there really states out there that mail out ballots en masse to people who never asked for them? If that’s true then I can totally see Trump’s concern, but so far it seems like he blew this way out of proportion.

And as for the CNN article which acknowledges that about half of the 80 million (Trump's outlandish claim) are indeed unsolicited?

They aren't unsolicited if your state is promoting mail-in voting only. Sending ballots to all registered voters is necessary. You've had this explained to you in at least two other threads on this forum. Is there a part of this that you still don't understand? Or is it that you just can't let go of Trump's ignorant rhetoric on this issue?

There are five states that do mail-in voting only: Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Hawaii. It works quite well.

You keep using Trump's word: unsolicited. To paraphrase a good movie line: I don't think that word means what you think it does.

If a state does mail-in voting only, registering to vote in that state serves as a request for a ballot. In the states that are allowing mail-in voting this year because of the pandemic, being a registered voter constitutes a request for a ballot.

    These are not unsolicited.

My guess would be they elect to do this because it is more efficient and probably cheaper with bulk rate discounts.

You must be getting me confused with someone else. I've never asked this question before.

So those states sending out ballots to every registered voter, is not AT ALL different to what they did in 2016?

The purpose of ballots is so people can vote. In case you didn't know.... Republicans believe (and they are probably right) that the less people who vote, the higher their chances of winning an election. But that's not how Democracy works.

This is the first year Pa. has allowed mail in ballots upon request as a response to the Corona virus.

It's not rocket science. Strongly pushed by Democrats because they feel they can better affect the outcome and get votes returned that are counted but not valid. Same reason Democrats pushed for motor voter and early voting and why they push for ballot harvesting. It will garner more Democrat votes one way or another.

IIRC there about 11 states that will do universal mail-in balloting, meaning they send out unsolicited ballots to every listed registered voter (even if the voter has moved or died). A couple of states have been doing this for a few years. California and maybe others went one step further by sanctioning harvesting where the ballot does not have to be returned by mail or mail carrier but can be picked up by any 3rd party.

There are other anomalies, like a recent LA County election that got more mailed-in ballots than there are registered voters.

There is no control over who these votes will be cast for of course.

It guarantees that the most number of LEGAL votes can be cast...ya know...democracy

You might have a case for people to registered to vote after the implementation of unsolicited universal mail-in voting - but not before.
And even then, this is as sound as arguing you made a request for sales people to call you by listing your number in the phone book.

Leslie McRae Dowless a GOP political operative is looking at 10 years in prison and a huge fine after the GOP paid him and those he employed, to harvest ballots alter them to his candidate and forge the signatures in the 2018 N. Carolina congressional election.

And risk years in jail and a $5,000 fine for even opening the ballot?

Let's not forget that you can track your vote on line.

Why are you asking me? I would have to google that, so why don't you google it for yourself? It isn't something that I even care about.

The only people objecting are Trump supporters.

Most voters are fine with voting by mail, even if they never did before.

None of this addresses anything in my post.
