French is the most hideous and disgusting language period. They sound like they have a sinus infection when they talk. Its ****ing annoying to listen do. German is second with its voch, hack, dunf, gronk!

The best European language is Swedish...

I would never have learned French had it not have been French being my school's only second language.
French was my school's language of choice (thank God/dieu Merci); the school I first went to had 3, German, French and Spanish... (I'm not sure if my first school had Spanish or if it was this all boys comprehensive my two older brothers went to). - My sister's all girls comprehensive had Japanese! and... My college where I went to study it had girls from my sister's school and our Sensei taught Japanese at both my college and my sister's all girl's comprehensive.
I had a lot more fun at my second school on account of the catchment area was wider, and it was more lively and more me than my first school, which wasn't anything special either, but was a cut above my second secondary school with ' ' High School in it's name, that's been since made an Academy.
Love that they taught me French.
I had a French Teacher (the school had like 3 of them) as my tutor group/homeroom too at first.

    Yes, you're right.
I live in Virginia and have noticed that a lot of the dialects & expressions in the more remote parts of the state that were settled long ago are very much like Elizabethan English.

Everyone has their quirks & one of mine is a very slight annoyance at the use of recently fabricated nonsense words usually employed by bureaucrats like "proactive", "preplan", "disenfranchise" etc. The misuse of "less than" & fewer than" is also only a minor irritant to me.

How about you? Do you have any petty language use irritants?

Well, English is not my native tongue, so I cannot really point out anything in that language. But, up here, there are some very common grammatical mistakes people make where they should not be made.

Bureaucratic language is always annoying. Here, politicians like to use the word "challenge" instead of "problem" in any issue they are obviously incapable of solving. Also, we have the word värdegrund which is impossible to translate into English. What it basically means is a framework of rules and values concering what is acceptable and what is not. Basically a framework for how to be PC.

I would not have guessed that English was not your native tongue as your command of the English language is excellent.

It seems that bureaucratic rhetoric is annoying in that it is deliberately vague & evasive. Many politicians who speak end up saying nothing because they do not want to offend people on either side of an issue. By trying not to offend anyone, they frequently end up annoying everyone.

I think French is a beautiful language.
Do not for one second get me wrong, I love English being my mother tongue, and the English speaking world are kin to me because; I can understand them, even if it's broken English it seems to not matter and I know it; Probably because my hometown where I was raised live and work has immigrants from all over the world and with that (being raised with all of that) has made me know it.
I would like to state furthermore, that my father is a Cockney.
A Cockney is native to The Sounds of Bow Bells which is an area of areas.
    Cockneys come from London.
There a social class from an area/which covers East and South London in origin; You're a Cockney if you come from a neighbourhood and used the language.
Cockney Rhyming Slang are English words that rhyme with that they mean....

To translate who my father whom raised me and taught me Cockney in the homestead in South Norwood (I'm not a Cockney, I'm from The London Borough of Croydon) in American; Liken Cockneys to Bootleggers making NASCAR to out run the cops, Cockneys, the people who made their own language out of rhymes to allude the law.

I feel like teaching the thread Cockney because I can, and I'd let you judge for yourself Cockney's linguistic appearance.

First let us practice dropping the H.

Repeat after me and then guess what they mean.

'ouse 'ome 'im (not I'm, 'im') 'er 'ow 'igh 'ave 'e

Cockneys do not play with the J like everybody else, in Cockney, it's just another letter in the English alphabet, so J just sounds like J in Cockney ...
H, however, the Cockneys dropped it... If it begins with an H, it's not even a silent H, the H has been surgically removed altogether.

    How are you?
'Ow's your belly fully of spots?

    Man
    Guvnor or Guv'
(In 2018, everyone else says Mate now, but last time I checked, I wasn't in Australia and I don't go drinking with these men and I'm not about to mate with any of them), so in the UK, I don't say 'Mate' when having to politely grab a guys attention, I say Guv' or Guvnor; because I can, because I know what it means in Cockney, and because of my ethnicity where I'm blessed working along side a world of people.
I like it, feels right, I'm the only guy out there saying Guv' or Guvnor... what happened?
Still, I say it, say it proud.

    Bus
    Camel

    Road
    Toad

I think all things transport were animals.

    Animal have different names.

    Cat
    Moggy

Thanks, sir. It is not as extrordinarily impressive as you might think - Here, we are exposed to English at a very early age since almost everything shown on TV is from America and not dubbed, but with subtitles. The same goes for the music played on the radio and English classes start as early as the second year of elementary school.

Exactly. Ever tried reading a government report? Incomprehensible sentences created with cute words that do not really mean anything at all.

I would not consider French particularly beautiful and the same applies to English. Spanish is a language I don't fancy one bit and Portuguese is pure awful. Italian, however, is very beautiful.

    It's not up for debate.
Any Germanic language = wrong, since we're looking for beauty, not authoritarianism; Any Scandinavian language = wrong, because we're looking for beauty, not boring/dull and bland (or goofy) Dutch... Too much like German to be beautiful.

I guess English is only on my list of Europe's most beautiful languages because it's my mother tongue, still, the French words in English are pretty, like 'centre'; and it is idiot proof, and, it's the language in most cockpits in aviation and it's better than Esperanto because English does the same thing only nobody actually speaks Esperanto making English beautiful like that too, and it's poetic with its class system that gives something different names.

German is very utilitarian, not pretty or lovely to the ear.

I'd say Spanish is the loveliest language, especially with the right accent.

    Once someone masters
    • Slang
    • Regional dialects
Then they can really blend in with a native speaker, until then, it's okay/right, and proper, but it's still real easy to spot a new comer to the language.
