My opinion is it was wrong but understandable, Antifa/BLM have been storming buildings, looting, burning and terrorising American cities for years, the right wing now have aped their actions. But all the casualties were on the side of the rioters. This was an act of extreme protest but you know where they're coming from.

Sedition is slightly worse than anything BLM or AntiFa did. It is interesting how the conservative narrative has shifted so sharply from “shoot protesters” to murdering capital police and shutting down government due to unfounded conspiracy theories is “wrong but understandable”.

The state allows violence. This was a failed coup.

From across the pond it looked like an attack on american democracy spurred on by a President who will not accept the result of a fair and free election. It reflects badly on people in america who believe conspiracy theories rather than facts. The chanting of stop the steal and USA reminded me of nothing more than Animal Farm with Trump playing the part of a Napoleon. I think many Americans have been reading the wrong Orwell.

Well from my side of the pond it looked like a spontaneous outburst of frustration from a political class whom have long been left behind. It's the actions of the media which remind me of Orwell.

I'm going to grant you there that at least you are acknowledging that it was Trump supporters and not Antifa. Yes they are left out, and Trump has failed them.

I answered this due to my belief that it was largely staged..... by professional actors who deserve some credit for being pretty good at what they do.

"It was wrong if no different from BLM/Antifa"

Were Antifa actor protestors involved at the Trump rally?

Those of you across the pond have not an inkling of the attempted coup we underwent after our last election. You have not a clue of the fraud we underwent in 2020. Do you, across the pond think un solicited mail in voter ballots are a good idea? I don't think you tolerate that. I also believe you require voter ID.

This storming was very expected given the increase of political fanboyism and general tribalism that we have seen taking place over the last years.

This is something that will have nasty consequences and as I see it, America is dead.

The only shocking thing is how easy it was for these plebs to invade a government building. Imagine the signals that it sends to mobs who are more violent.

I don't blame the Capitol police at all, they were faced with an unprecedented situation and reacted correctly.

Not necessarily, Trump gave the more than they ever had before, Trump is their symbol, not the Pied Piper leading them astray.

Unfortunately, if any on the Right say it was 'okay' or 'justified' simply because of the actions of the other side, then they have to accept that they are no better than that other side. The protest was justifiable and I support it. Free speech and all that. But as I denounced the violence and rioting that sprung from the peaceful protests of the summer, I denounce the 'storming' and all the vandalism and death that resulted.

Are you saying that there were never protests in the capital of the US?

Not just "a" government building, "THE" government building, the "CAPITOL", the name LITERALLY says it all.

OTOH, LOOK at them. Is it any wonder that no one was taking them seriously?

I think it was a coup attempt. I also know that there was an unannounced Pro-Trump parade locally, on the same day as the riot that stormed the Congress building. So, I think the sentiment is "we want Trump as President" and it could be 48% of the population feels that way. Certainly there could be wide-spread riots if they choose to act.

    Not as big as 9/11.

No but they were very outnumbered and had to choose between firing on an unarmed crowd or sealing the building, they handled it pretty well.

Add to that illegal campaign contributions (e.g., Facebook), the submission of ballots by 3rd party vote harvesters, and the use of non-secure voting machines (as demonstrated by the demonstrated hacking of these machines at the Defcon conferences). What those in foreign countries likely do not understand is that there has been some degree of vote fraud in all past American national elections. These question is not if fraud occurred. Rather the question is the scope and level of vote fraud.

So your defense is that one act of stupid violence is excused by another? And you are forgetting the MAGA rioters killed a cop and injured over 50 others.
