Politics is about ideology. There is no place for ideology in government. Government should be based upon intelligent decisions and fairness for ALL.

I am a pragmatic and moderate centrist, with a lean to the left. The best thing to do in most situations is to carefully consider ideas from all sides, so as to combine the best ones to create the best system possible. We always have to respect people who we do not agree with politically, for freedom of thought is the basis of a democratic society.

To give an example of my centrism, let's use health care. My strategy would be a deregulation of medical providers, combined with comprehensive insurance vouchers that progressively increase with lower incomes. Rebates and tax credits would also be provided to help lower income people provide money for copays and deductibles. I believe this would be the best approach because the price of health care would decrease (from the perspectives of both the doctor and the insurance company) due to deregulation, while still maintaining a universal framework.

This might be the most effective way to implement universal health care in the United States. Democrats would support the universal framework and no one being left behind, while Republicans would applaud the deregulated and market-oriented approach.

One thing I am not a centrist on, however, is civil liberties. I am a firm civil libertarian who supports freedom of speech, thought, etc. Human rights are the cornerstones of a free society.

Just so you know, that sounds pretty much what the rest of the world calls a 'Liberal'. Don't be put off by the emotionally charged term as far as US politics is concerned - Liberalism is what it is, despite what some in the US (especially on the right) think it is, or accuse it of being. Have a read of this - see if you agree with what it is saying:

In other words - wealth redistribution. I agree with the guy above. No need to overexplain and pontificate the definition your political views, just say you are a liberal and be done with it. Civil Liberties? So you support the "have nots'" right to the "have's" property. I guess the tax payers' rights to property do not fall under your definition of civil liberties.

I appreciate your attempt at walking both sides of the fence but that only works for politicians. People truly disciplined in thought cannot support civil liberty without understanding its root, which is human rights. The rights of the many do not out weigh the rights of the one. People do not have rights, only a person does; therefore you cannot place a group of people's "rights" over that of an individual. Such as the "poor" or "rich" or "black" or "white".
In matters such as universal health care, there is only one solution. Everyone pays for what they want. In any matter where the government subsidizes anything, costs rise and quality decreases. Isn't this the opposite of what is trying to be accomplished? It's been these altruistic motives throughout this country's history that has seen most of our problems. Let's not have another.

I believe we may need to elect new law-makers once incumbents become mere, law-givers by recycling historical mistakes as new, upgraded versions of previous laws.

And what is the 1950's style and what are those fundamental values you believe in?

'Liberalism' certainly does not include 'wealth redistribution', and certainly does include Civil Liberties.

Try reading the link I provided.

'Liberalism' and 'Socialism' are worlds apart as political ideologies. I realise many in the US (including some calling themselves 'Liberals') don't understand this, and perception of it has been warped by the 2 party system in the US, but 'Liberalism' is not remotely similar to 'Socialism'.

I agree that the word 'Liberalism' has been distorted and hijacked by the collectivist left, but what you proposed is in fact wealth redistribution. Correct me though if I'm wrong, aren't vouchers tax payer's money? If the tax payer has his money taken in order to support another isn't that wealth being redistributed? Isn't that a socialist ideal? Is it "fair" to charge more to one family for health care than it is to another? Ive never understood how liberals' only solution to solving the country's problems was to rob people- and then call it fair!

Any politician who condones any social welfare of any kind has betrayed his oath to uphold the constitution. They almost always do it in the name of the "common good", which is code word for very common and never good.

The centre of my political philosophy is equity. This means to treat everyone and everything fairly. I tend to adopt this political philosophy because it allows me to be flexible without being chained to the left or right wing of the political spectrum.

I don't know if I already posted here or what, but it seems I am a bit late. Anyways, I am a Reformed Nazi. Before you get all angry and stuff, I am reformed for a reason. The Holocaust and all of the Fuhrer's obsessions were only that, obsessions, and unfortunately that led to the death of over 6 million people. The political part of the Nazis on the other hand were not obsessions, they were truths, and a lot of it is right and should be implemented today. I mean think about it, if you remove the Holocaust from Hitler's list of accomplishments, what do you get? The man brought one of the poorest nations at the time out of an economic decline, inspired new beliefs that still exist today, conquered masses of land, and is by far the best orator in history. If you wanna see the rest of my agenda or are interested in any way, I have a group called the Reformed Nazi Party that highlights a lot of my political beliefs but as far as left or right goes, people often think fascism is far right, but the Nazis were not technically fascists, nor were they communists. I would say that I combine the best of both the far right and far left and have a unique spot on the political spectrum.

Welcome to the Shark Tank. Don't be put off by our rabid right posters, anything less conservative than Newt Gingrich is considered twisted left liberal. You'll find all stripes here, moderates, progressives, communists, right wing nuts, white separatists, fiscal conservatives, pious people and religious bible thumpers. Often a mixture of several of the above. Lots of passion, a few facts, all of the opinion you can stand, and some pretty knowledgable folks well practiced in debating. Have Fun!

so let me get this straight, you would advocate closing the doors to all immigrants or just select groups? I'm sure you have the intelligence and knowledge to know that the Unites States is a Country of immigrants, right? Your ancestors came into this Country as immigrants and wiped out the natives...

Do you know that 40% of the fortune 500 companies were founded my immigrants? Heard of GOOGLE? AT&T? Goldman Sachs? Yahoo? that's right, founded by immigrants. Without immigrants and the free influx of entrepreneurial talent over the years, the US would not be close to being the economic superpower it is.

Now if your position is to target certain groups, like Mexicans, lower class Asians, ME and Africans by not allowing them to immigrate but giving others a pass, please explain further. Some Mexicans are the hardest working people in this Country and some Asians, Africans and ME people have contributed to the economy in ways you are choosing to ignore. If you simply want to prevent criminals, lazy people from immigrating how about also deporting Americans who are lazy, criminal and nuisance to the Country? after all, we all immigrants.
