To stop the Chinese buildup? No, not really much the US could do except for attacking china, but that's obviously not worth it.

The chinese are greatly out matched though.. The US has allies all around china.. The US is overwhelmingly stronger.

Anything can be done now. China will never attack the US (they never showed any serious military expansion in their history and that is mentality), but they are really aiming at trading everyone to death. Competing with China is only possible if the US starts to produce cheap products of high quality. For now it seems that it is the major problem of the modern world for the US is mostly producing dollars and political instability in the countries, which are not eager to buy these pieces of paper.

We live quite next to each other. Just the other side of the globe. Why should I think differently? For now the strategy looks transparent. US would try to use all of their allies against their enemies, with a vague hope to enter into a battle with a decisive factor of precision weaponry. Something of that kind of strategy was set in Vietnam, when the stake on south Vietnam was made against the north one... with the results which are known. I see no other plan from anything that is said by any talking head. And this plan means war, which will definetely get to me. I would really prefer the economic competition. If US takes the challenge - it creates wonderful opportunities for Russia as well, because both competitors would look for a reliable source of raw materials. It's bad that we are out of the serious challenge... for now. But it makes a possibility for me to live another 50 years, make money, raise kids and see the world as it is now or even better before the new generations come up...
I don't care about US or China. I don't believe into friendship against the common enemy. I just want to live. Is it really that strange?

China as we know it will eventually collapse. A society with a certain degree of economic freedom and no political freedom can't last forever.

I don't know what happens after that.

Not won't, can't. Walmart would collapse if it could only sell the 6 or 7 items they stock that are actually made 100% in the USA.

Can the US stop the build up? No.
Can the US blockade Chinese ports, crush their economy and destroy their ability to make war - all without a single boot on the ground? Yes.

Sure. Put an end to financing their military build up with US dollars, buying what MNCs and china is exporting to our markets. The neoliberals helped china out tremendously, in exchange for maxing out the profits of the banksters and MNCs. So, it not only devastated our own working people, but it led to the rise of china as an economic power, which means the military power flows from that.

The Chinese are going to try and get away with everything they can under Obama . Obama will do nothing! Trump and Clinton will at least do something about their expansion. 7 more months of Obama? I hope we make it?

not only will we not boycott them, we won't even hold them accountable when they break into corporations and steal data, we won't hold them accountable for counterfeit merchandise that litters the globe with that stolen data, we don't hold them accountable for anything, much like anyone else we draw a line in the sand and they step over...

our real problem is, once their exporting economy transforms and no longer depends on experts to sustain its growth, we'll NEVER be able to economically impact them and prevent the blatant theft and abuse of treaties because we'll have finally lose the one thing we could have done without resorting to violence... it will be too late soon...

this is when america will finally learn what its like to have other nations pull its strings and force us to do their bidding when not only we can't impact them, but they will actually be able to directly impact us going forward, america is not ready for that, so we damn well better put the brakes on their economy while we can and make things right...

corporate america would be thrilled if we enforced the current treaties with china, it would mean china would have to do something about the patented information being stolen and ripped off... it means we would finally have to respond to the rampant currency manipulation and industry subsidization... it means corporations would finally be able to make goods in america and ship them to china, rather than china forcing them to open factories in china and make the goods they sell in china, in china...

so corporations would be tickled pink if government would do its job... but government isn't... so all corporations can do is wade through the murky swamp forward...

1....China has a huge mountain of US debt securities. Who is helping who?

2...Where would America, if (when) China (and others) will stop buying US paper? :)

Maybe because you don't have American-made products to replace them with? Are you going to be happy to pay 4x more for your products just because of a 'Made in USA' label?

What on earth are you talking about? America has been flouncing around the globe rigging elections, destabilizing governments, overthrowing democracies and bombing anywhere that even vaguely resembles a 'threat' to US political ideology and global hegemony! And you have the audacity to complain that America is having it's strings pulled? It is the US which is forcing other nations to do its bidding, and frequently under threat of either violence or economic sanction. Are you really that unaware of what your country does?

    Ha ha ha.

You can't deal with China the way you dealt (more or less successfully) with the plethora of third-world nations over which you attempted to inforce economic imperialism in the second half of the XXth century. They can reduce your carrier groups into marine life sanctuaries.

Might as well put it back into your pants.

sure maybe 20yr, maybe 100yrs, eventually every country will collapse. Chinese are very materialistic so they are more worry about economy then protest/bashing the government.
