I couldn't live without the brave men and women who do that profession, its a priceless service even though there is a market rate for their services.

Well, in case my screen name doesn't give it away, I'm simply a licensed arborist in the state of CT. I work with trees for a living. I own my own very small business, (just me and my oldest son for right know). Its not a real fancy job but it pays the bills and I honestly do enjoy it, and being self employed, I have the flexibility to be able to spend plenty of time with my wife, 2 children, and 4 foster children, and that, to me, is really what is most important.

OMG, do you mean to say you aren't getting the senior discount? That's an outrage.

My wife thinks I'm a money machine. Does this count?

I'm retired. I used to work as an engineer on an oil company in Dubai.
I got married to a Filipina and just invested my money here.

Retired printing executive. I loved the printing process ever since as a kid I got a kit to make rubber stamps. Then I had a newspaper route. Then I got into newspaper circulation, then newspaper advertising, then newspaper production (composing and printing press, letterpress and offset), then I moved into management.

Keep your signatures so distinct and clear so that it will not be forged easily. Checks also play a vital part in your accounting.

Wow, I don't see a lot of activity on this thread. Maybe not everybody is thrilled about their careers? I suppose that is why we call it work and don't do it for free...

I convert gasoline powered automobiles into fully electric vehicles that no longer burn fossil fuels. By doing custom conversions, I am able to beat the efficiency of all of the factory built electric cars that you buy at your local auto mall, and I am able to get more range and speed, as well as faster charging.

Sounds like a pretty rewarding career. I have heard the self employed ones tend to make a little more money, since there is no middle man. Enjoy that retirement!

Work, I don't need to work but I do a lot of volunteer service.

In past lives I have done many things starting with an enlisted flight mechanic for a flying communications center with missile launch capabilities. Hey got to pop one of those critters, 6000 miles down range but the Air Force sucked so adios.

Back as a civilian, I started as a computer communication tech for a manufacturer but found sales was much more fun. I designed and sold systems in almost every state with Alaska and Montana being the exceptions. Then I transferred to International and worked with mainly banks and airlines (they bought the most) but if a company wanted communications network, I sold. Also had a stint in Marketing when my company needed someone to get a product line back on track, their cash cow product.

Had enough of corporate life and struck out on my own, became an entrepreneur with a couple of communication companies as authorized dealer for both data and voice communications. Marketed, designed, sold and maintained networks, some as small as an office phone system up to inter-networked data and voice systems. Helped implement some of the first voice over frame relay and voice over IP moving on to VOIP phone systems. Sadly, this became a commodity market when Cisco and HP started selling to discounters so that the end user got better deals that a dealer that had to buy from distribution, so exit stage left.

Had bought a small woodworking shop that specialized in high end cabinetry and wood products. Became master cabinet maker and master wood worker. Had the most fun of all my lives. Survived 2008 quite well but then it kept getting worse and worse. Folded my tent in 2011, sold all my business assets and have never had to really think about working since, even though I helped a small electrical contractor business by being the operation manager until I could get the position defined and my replacement hired. Also spent time with an electrical contractor by being head of purchasing again until I could establish formal purchasing systems and get my replacement hired.

Now, a life of chores and taking care of my animals doing my farm thing, working to have food that I know where it came from and how it came to be, when not being a volunteer.

I work part time security at just a few cents above minimum wage so of course I'm using food stamps. I get to live in an apartment on site so I don't have to commute. My only transportation is a 2011 Chinese scooter which I only use to fetch groceries every few days. I don't get any benefits and I don't earn enough to qualify for credit. Down town is too far away for me to walk and I can't use my scooter in bad weather so a 2nd job is just not a practical option. Besides I value my personal time at home more than a minimum wage job. That's why I've been stuck here for the past fourteen years. I've only been collecting food stamps for the past four years and in that time I've managed to saved $2000. My only goal at this point is to get a car so I'm not sleeping on the street if this gig goes sideways.

Well, I'm a college major and I'm majoring in Accounting. By the way can anyone on here give me some advice on the Accounting/Finance field who's working in it or has worked in it? Like stress, etc?

Depends on what aspect you go into. CFO - buy stock in Tums. Accounting clerk, you aren't going to lose any sleep. Day trader? I believe the prescribe anti-psychotic meds for that. ;)

Retired now, but had 21 years of active duty army followed by another 26 years working for the army as a Department of the Army civilian. Most of it in communications. I saw the military go from teletypes to the internet, from manual switchboards to VOIP, from radio shots to satellites.

I'm a political writer / web designer and I own a company. On quote I also make logos, usually simple geometric ones and typographic ones. And we also have a family business (real estate firm).

The question was "what kind of work do you do?"

Suppose a person is well enough situated to be happily retired, like myself? You were too quick to jump to nasty judgements of others. More likely you just wanted to express hatred and to boast about yourself, and whether it is true or not we can't tell.
