California Fish and Game Code, Section 2118 states (italics mine) --

"Carnivora are restricted for the welfare of the animals, except animals of the families Viverridae (civet cats) and Mustelidae (weasels, mink, ermine, ferret, etc.) in the order Carnivora are restricted because such animals are undesirable and a menace to native wildlife, the agricultural interests of the state, or to the public health or safety."

In a way, this kind of makes sense - California doesn't want the same problems with invasive species that Florida is having with pythons in the Everglades.

I don't have any. I can't stand pets sorry. Whenever I see a dog getting close to me I try to walk away.

We have five cats as pets. We also have eight pigs now. Shela just delivered yesterday and Pam is bagging up pretty good. Our cows are going in the freezer so we will have to get at least one as soon as the pasture picks up again.

Shela had six and five survived. Pan looks like she will deliver more...and that is good news for Bruno because we were going to cut him for the freezer. The big boy is going over three hundred pounds now and still growing.

I have a lurcher/longdog...a greyhound/part deerhound cross. Not the most sensible dog for a pensioner of 5ft 1in to have, tbh, but he has a lovely temperament and understands swearie words so I don't have to physically abuse him...I just shout a lot!. dougathedougl.jpg

We had a dog that would limp when he saw the neighbor lady. She would pity him and give him a treat. She asked me what was wrong with his leg.. I said nothing he is fine, he only limps when he sees you..lol. He had the neighbor lady trained.

The more attention animals are given the more personality they develop.

We have an old yellow Lab who is blind and deaf but never stops wagging her tail. then there is a huntaway, that's a Kiwi sheep dog who is terrified of sheep. She had been badly treated and needed lots of T L C. But she came right and is a beautiful gente pet.We also have a grey kitten.

I have enjoyed all your stories. Here's mine.
I got my first dog when I was 2 years old and so I became a solid dog-person. I've had 21 of them over my life time.
From my experience all puppies eat furniture and chew woodwork. The don't settle down till they are 2 years old.
In my youth I raised and showed Shetland Sheepdogs. It was as one of these shows that I first saw the Belgian Sheep Dog --- with that my heart was gone. Had to have one. My first puppy died at 6 months.
This was Pal - named after my first dog who was also solid black.

    I didn't get another Belgian Shep.until 1982 and have had 5 1/2 since.
My last 2 were Mavrick, a Belgian Tervuren (from breed rescue) and Jenny, a Belgian Malinois that I bought as a 6 month old puppy.

    dogjen0001.jpg
Mavrick went to doggie heaven Feb of 2007 and Jenny Jan of 2011.
As I'm getting up in age I don't plan on getting another, but if I did it was be another Belgian. I cannot even imagine having anything else.

This is Rocket Shooter.[IMG]King of the household!

He was a tad younger in that photo. As you can see, he is a Brown that is a big boy. He weighs about 135 or so. He will be six on January 5, 2014. He is sound asleep and snoring so loudly right now, he drowns out most everything else.

Browns are half nuts and the other half is crazy. He just woke up and is now mooching for cookies again. He is our baby and has us trained accordingly.
