Hahaha! you earned me a trophy! 100 likes! Though I had many more before we switched formats ... thanx for your support ... just pandering, no intent of reciprocating ... Pretty lit already Erin go braless!
4 dogs, 3 are puppy mill rescues, a cat, 4 South Suffolk sheep (a ram and 3 ewes) 6 bantam hens, 2 Turquoisines in an outdoor aviary and a Maroon Bellied Conure who lives inside, he can fly around and is a great talker. We have a lake on the property, it's got ducks but I'm hoping to attract native birds here and have planted many native plants around it.
I have 17 goats and 4 cats. We also have a bunch of chickens. We even have two chickens from somewhere else that moved in. I love talking birds and would love to have an African Grey. I also have fish indoors and out...hundreds of goldfish and a few Koi.
Wow. It looks like you're "into" rescuing wildlife. Just don't try rescuing a coyote! They can't be tamed. Even hybrids are a real problem to be avoided.
Is your Scottie a wheaten? We had a Scottie at one time (had the Westie to go with him too) he was a grey brindle. I always thought Scotties came in black until we got our Robbie. At present one of our little dogs has no eyes. He had one gone when we got him and the other just gave up and had to be removed too. He copes very well, and can always find a comfy place to sleep!!
Yup, that's her on the left. Her name is Caitie. We have owned 6 (3 pairs) in 25 years and all were rescues but the first pair. Caitie came to us from a backyard breeder and she was very fearful. No more! She's the sweetest little girl.
I have one like that too, she was used as a breeding bitch and kept in filthy conditions, it's a great feeling to be able to provide her freedom, love and comfort... and of course food, she was skin and bone when we got her.
Ive had dogs cats horses, a few birds. As a kid had horses on our property. As an adult only boarded. I love Scotties. Ive only seen one where I use to work...she was the cutest thing. Ive fostered and had a few final refuge dogs. Beagles, Malamutes, Belgian Malinois, Shepard's, a bipolar little Chinese crested. I want a coon hound and goats...but my neighbors wouldn't.
We currently have four dogs ourselves. The oldest is a white lab that is now 13. She was about 5 when we got her from a family that had to get rid of her, because they were moving to a place that wouldn't take dogs. She has been a great dog and smart. She still gets around good, just has trouble jumping up into the vehicle, so I help her up. The second one is 6 years old and is a boxer mix. We got her when she was bout 6 months old from the pound. She has been a good dog as well. She loves to talk back and will tell you when she wants to be in your lap or be petted. She broke her back hip about 2 years ago, when she jumped out of the car window. Luckily we had just gotten to the gate and was coming up the driveway when it happened. Didn't think the window was open enough for her to get out. It has slowed her down some. The last two are a brother and sister from the same litter. She is a chocolate lab and he is a yellow lab. Both about 6 years old. We've had them for a little over a year. We got them from a lab rescue because their previous owner had to give them up due to a medical condition of her. They both were severely overweight. He could barely run. Both had thyroid issues and needed medication for it. He also had a skin condition that was causing redness and dryness on his skin and his hair was falling out. It also appeared that they had never eaten from a food bowl or even proper dog food before. We got both of them on the correct medication for their thyroid issue and got them down to a proper weight. We also got his skin condition under control. His hair is nice and shiny now. After all that, she ended up getting a cancerous tumor on her leg. After consulting with a vet and specialist, we had to have her leg amputated. It was one of her front legs. That was back in April. She has healed up from the amputation and is on a chemo pill. The cancer didn't spread and so far, hasn't returned. She actually gets around pretty good with only three legs. You would think she had all 4.
This guy is something else. When looking at the liter we immediately became attached to this little male. We had previously decided we wanted a female because they tend to be more 'loving'. However, we left the breeder's house with a Tom. He is the sweetest care we've ever had. We've heard that Rag Dolls and Maine Coons are the closest things to having pet dogs and it's really seems true. He can still display the 'send me a memo' moments but he inter-reacts with us much more than any of our previous cats ever did.
I have a grey tabby stray that we have had for 15 years, he keeps our dogs in line and teaches them manners. They stand around and watch when he comes on the scene. It is funny to see how he treats them. They will even let him interrupt their eating if he wants to smell the food. My cat is special but I still want a Rag Doll, when I get catless.
I reckon for every 1 male doggy person I see during my peregrinations, there are at least 20 female doggy persons. Why is that, I wonder? Is it the 'nurture' thing at work or sommat?
Female dogs are suppose to be smarter than males (or so people say). If my border collie had opposable thumbs he would be something to reckon with. I swear the dog thinks and reasons things out. He understands words that I didn't realize he knew. I would love to see a female as smart as him.
