What a bunch of whiners.....The more effort and work I put in, privilege seems to follow. FFS, grab the steering wheel.

The privilege that white people have is brought to them by hard work. They DO NOT lay around like lazy drones and expect the government to provide the with a cradle to grave existence!!!!!!

I don't feel like I have any sort of privilege as a white male. Heck, Obama's kids have more privilege than I probably will ever have.

Obama's kids are the daughters of a POTUS. Not exactly a typical example to compare yourself with, AM. How about picking a more average Black American family?

Young black Americans have a lot of affirmative action programs aimed at helping them. That's a sort of privilege I don't have.

"What privilege do white people have?"

    Taxcutter says:
None, but they do have a lot of disadvantages through government action.

It could be because they DESERVE it.

So young black Americans in aggregate are better off than their young white counterparts are once affirmative action programs solve all their problems for them? I didn't know that AM. It must have been all those stupid facts and statistics telling me the opposite that confused me.

Isn't that the goal of Affirmative Action?

The only thing that determines if a certain person of a particular race is better off than someone from another race is their own innate desire to better themselves. Why would anyone of any race want the government to determine how well off they are or aren't?

Yes it is. The thing is AM is talking as if that goal has somehow already been reached and Affirmative Action is obsolete. If he was making an argument that AA doesn't work that would be one thing, but to complain of reverse discrimination against a program that is trying to reduce the effects of still real discrimination is a little surreal.

The statistics just don't back you up, Libhater. Forget the Horatio Alger storyline: simply look at the numbers. For that matter, in aggregate it is now harder for a young white person to better him or herself than it was 35 years ago. Is that due to a drop in innate desire or government interference or the dominance of the very rich in American political and economic policies, or what?

One example. I work for a VERY high powered company in the stock options buisness. In fact I work for the main/biggest options clearing house in the world. Our board is made up of various people from the various trading companies. Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, HSBC, Citigroup, etc etc, so on and so forth.

In our board room hangs the picture of each and every CEO that is represented on our board roughly 30 people in all. We call that wall "The wall of diversity"

Why you might ask? Because every single one of them is, has been, and most likely will remain for a very long time, to a person, white males. Every single one of them. We have not one single non white male on our board. Representing the make up of almost 30 stock / options companies, and stock exchanges. Not one single non white male. Not one.

We DID have a woman on the board. ONCE. She was only a board member for 3 weeks before she was removed in favor of a white male. ( the average person on our board remains on our board for usually 2-3 years )

I have worked here now almost 18 years. And in that time our board has flipped over about 8-9 times. In that time that woman was the ONLY non white male to EVER be a part of our board. And of course, the woman was white as well.

What statistics? Statistics have absolutely nothing to do with human nature. You either have what it takes to better yourself, or you don't.

Yeah, it was very hard for me to get my first job while I was in high school, but through perseverance I prevailed. Take the statistics and shove em.

I'm guessing its a drop in innate desire since many of Obama's generation of low/no information voters et al have been looking for a free ride now for almost 5 years without lifting a finger.

Well for starters, even though I was poor, and went to public school, I was in the same classes as the rich kids, like the mayors son, and the son of the owner of the biggest car dealership in the county and the daughter of the biggest attorney in Town, and another girl from the family that owned about half the land in the county. .

On the other hand, there were no black kids in my school. They all went to a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty, run down school on the poor (read that black) side of town.

We are instilled with a stronger work ethic than many minority groups, our parents are more inclined to raise us well (the both of them) etc. Basically it's cultural, just like with asians and most ethnic groups in America.

White privilege is dead, at least in the middle class.

    When was that?

And are you sure black people did not choose to go to schools with more black people?

And are you sure about the mayor son in the public school thing? What town was that?

In a free market, racism would be punished for low efficiency and being less competitive.

Clearly those investment banker (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s haven't been.

Because America is not a free-market, it is not even free.

It's not even free because of the wonderful federal gubberment, something blacks rely on heavily.

You know what? Sometimes I think the whole Karma thing may have its reality bases.

Was poor? Wasn't it you who just a few days ago talked about being on Medicare and Social Security? I'd call that pretty poor, and that's assuming you have a home paid off- which I kinda doubt, given previously displayed attitudes on personal responsibility.

Personally, I would never want to just get by on Social Security and Medicare. Fortunately, I am planning for my future. If only more people would so the same thing.

At any rate, I hope things get better for you, though doubt they will given your refusal to consider working.

Dishonest much? No, it was clear to me he was simply pointing out the programs blacks have to improve themselves. Is it his fault blacks continue to choose to remain ignorant, uneducated, live in ghettos, and ride around with their shorts falling off?

Sorry, but this country is free enough for anyone to succeed. It's time for everyone, especially blacks, to start taking responsibility for their lives instead of sitting around blaming whitey for their horrible choices.

Are you doubting that what they said was true? I had much the same experience, blacks were not integrated into the schools I went to until the early 70's.

Do you know what the true measure of racism is in America? Property values. They are a pure market measure of the degree of racism in society; how much the value of your house drops when a Black family moves in nearby shows just how strong racism is, because it reflects the number of people who would no longer consider buying your house. When you add in the phenomena of White Flight (White people moving out of a neighborhood because non-Whites are moving in), then the numbers reveal the degree of racism in society.
