Before I get started I do not condone racism of any kind to any person of any race. All form of racism disgusts me. With that being said, I find that societies attitudes towards racism, and their understanding of the idea of racism, doesn't allow for an intellectual discusion or it causes a misunderstanding as to what racism is and what racism isn't. According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, racism is defined as...

"the ideology that humans may be divided into separate and exclusive biological entities called “races”; that there is a causal link between inherited physical traits and traits of personality, intellect, morality, and other cultural and behavioral features; and that some races are innately superior to others"-https://www.britannica.com/topic/racism

So with that being said, are acts that certain people call racist actually racist. I would say no. For example if I use the N-word, the use of the N-word in it of itself doesn't automatically make it racist. If I say the word ****** like I did just know, I wasn't using it derogatorially nor was I using it in an offensive way I was merely saying the word. See I think context matters and intent matters. The use of certain words doesn't constitute automatic racism, what makes a word or what someone says as racist is based on the intent or the context behind their use of said words.

I also think you can apply this same logic to more physical examples such as people not hiring certain races. I was pondering this lately, and I was wondering if you could apply this same logic to actions as you could to language. I have come to conclusion that you can. If someone doesn't hire someone who is, I don't know, Black for example based on the color of their skin. Does that make it racist. Based on the definition given by the Encycolpedia Britanica, just not hiring someone because they are black or asian does not automattically make it racist. What matters is whether the intent behind the action put into practice falls under this definition and I don't think it is entirally illogical nor intellectual to say that it's not always the case.

Again, I am not condoning racism of any kind nor do I find racism to be good. I am merely trying to get to the heart or the crux of this issue in order to truly understand it completely and to help others understand it completely. So What do you all think. Are Words and actions in it of themselves racist, or does the context or intent behind said actions and words make them racist?

Sorry but your context on the use of words like ******, doesn't cut it. If one can use it anyone can use it. Nothing is more racist than hijacking language and words as ok for some but racist for others. That is exactly why racism will continue to exist.

There can be no real discussion on race in this country while some groups seek special treatment while demanding 'equality'. The two concepts are not compatible. One can be special or equal, but never both, until everyone is one same page the only sensible thing to do in America would be for whites to continue to attempt to destroy racist programs like Affirmative Action and equal opportunity legislation...

you can believe you are not racist, say the word but you are still carrying the torch for racist doctrines whether you know it or not. if you want to be anti racist actually go out there and fight the good fight and stop saying "im not racist".

ive been vehemently anti racist for years and have never once been suspected of racism. so i dont have that emotional guilt or need to prove to anybody thus i dont make posts that begin by saying "im anti- racist". right off the bat that is suspect.

its like an indoctrination, you may not think you are racist but the western systems of governance are institutionally racist and only now are we seeing a semblance of progress, you really need to step outside the box to achieve this if thats what you want.

it is very simple which is why there is so much fighting over it. The simple fact is that racism is strictly a way of thinking. You know someone is a racist because they tell you they are because they know they are.

Many racists openly tell you they are racist such as farrakhan and his acolytes or KKK members, They are not even ashamed of it.

Actions which harm no one such as using certain words if someone who admits to being a racist uses them to convey his or her beliefs.

Instead we have myths such as systemic racism and institutional racism which people are pushing as something more than a loopy idea. Using such sloppy reasoning along with a healthy dose of virtue signaling they declare anything they do not like or disagree with as racist.

They even declare negatives as racist such as NOT voting for Obama or not supporting affirmative action.

The whole idea they are attempting to present is one specifically designed to avoid and suppress any reasonable debate or discussion because they cannot defend their ideas on the merits

people who say the western systems of governance are not institutionally racist are merely carrying the torch for the slave masters and slave corporations of the last century, attempting to use their platform of white privilege to shout down the dissenting voices. this culmination of which is all so apparent in their idol, donald trumps pathetic retort of "fake news" to every opposition voice. they have run out of excuses, tired of the truth and childish insults is all they have left.

theyve got this far by pioneering the racists world order, they wont give that up until their very last breathe. thats why they wont allow africa to have nuclear weapons.

If you feel the need to make a thread that starts with, "I'm not a racist, but ...", you are probably a racist who is about to try and rationalize his racism.

A statement of inferiority with respect to a given race qualifies as racist.

I am simply asking what it was you were trying to say. The way you wrote your response to my thread was confusing to me.

That’s a very academic definition and I think in practical terms it’s a little more flexible than a literal reading of that would imply.

Yes, context, intent and meaning is key. I don’t think it’s generally suggested otherwise, though there can be questions about people not admitting their motives or not being aware of their subconscious influences.

Not automatically but I don’t see how a prospective employee being refused solely because of their (perceived) racial or ethnic grouping could be realistically anything else. If they would have been considered suitable for the job if they were a different race, the implication is that their race brings some innate negative factor.

For all the technicalities in these hypothetical examples, in the real world I’ve never had any difficulty identifying racists (or people who are otherwise discriminatory), either in single thoughtless cases or due to underlying beliefs.

    Very hyperbolic.

And as the british might say hyper bollocks.

Perhaps you could explain what is to gain by carrying a torch for people who have been dead over 100 years?

No one is not allowing Africa to have nukes the fact is most african nations are too poor and messed up to even try and get one.

The people that most use the term 'racist' are the least likely to use it correctly.

I've been called a racist a few times over the years. Every time for treating everyone equally.

racism is the belief that one race is superior or inferior to another.

racism is also applying usually negative behavioral stereotypes to all or most members of a race

racism is also depicting members of a race in offensive ways

Then try complete sentences ... subject / verb / object.

Only a woman would say something like "what?" ... and an old woman at that.
