No capitalists will do what they always do which is to control the means of production. Producing from waste or toxic materials or whatever is fundamentally no different from producing from natural resources.

Where we are going given the ever escalating concentration of wealth and resources at the top of the pyramid is back to a feudal society. Assuming we aren't there already, which is arguable.

Right. And that would be a sad and tragic state for the human race to end up in.

It would be the higher IQ people who would start the rebellion. The rest would join because it would be something to give meaning to their meaningless useless existence. People will always do something, either constructive or destructive.

So should we artificially restrict our advancements and production and do things in an inefficient and backwards way in order to employ the people that cannot make it in a society where the below average person is not necessary?

Didn't you know 'they' are pushing for everyone to work? We're told everyone's happy at work, it's a divine right, in the name of the all mighty work ethic. :p

We will just print a ton of money and live the life of luxury, while the rest of the world labors to produce the goods we need, rolls over and accepts our dollars forever

There will be many problems to deal with going forward just as there have been in every era before this. What they will all be and how they will be dealt with I don't know, but I do not believe we will ever come to a time when literally everything is available to everyone for free. Its undesirable, unworkable, and therefore won't happen.

Undesirable by some but there will be those that will seize on advancement with no thoughts as to the ramifications. If it can be done most often it will be done when it comes to science and advancement. Especially if you get some folks with Utopian dreams of freeing mankind from labor in order that they can look to higher pursuits. Then you will have the common man who will only see "hey free stuff and I dont have to work no more." At first that will seem very appealing.

Make no mistake robotics and AI WILL replace labor. People will be needed for advanced things but normal everyday tasks will be taken over by robots. Construction, basic services, manufacturing, heck even driving. This will fundamentally change everything and currently the system we have in place is not adequate to handle 50% or more able bodied humans not being needed in the work force.

If the folks with Utopian dreams have their way no doubt they will plunge us into another catastrophe like the ones they created in the 20th century. Their dreams will turn out to be nightmares as in the past and end up on the ash-heap of history - after much misery, death, and destruction.

Interesting musings. A world where half the people don't work? I have a couple of observations. At the present time about 40% of Americans between the ages of 16 and 65 don't work. So we are not far from that 50% number now. The highest rate of unemployment lies with those between 16 and 24 years old. It looks as though the younger generation is already practicing for the day they no longer have to work.

The bigger question is without incentive why would the other 50% continue to work? Why should the working 50% feel they are obligated to support the other 50%? I also question the idea that people would use this extra time to improve themselves or society. At the present time, a large percentage of the idle folks spend most of their time getting high. Why would anyone waste their time going to school, when all they are training for is doing nothing? Creatures that do not practice cognitive activity will lose the ability to think constructively.

It appears to me to be a society that spirals out of control and ends up with few people smart or motivated enough to maintain the power grids everything will depend on or to fix or build the machines that created their society. You end up with no machines to create the food, people who have lost the ability to grow their own food, and other services. The end result don't look pretty.

Solving simple poverty means unemployment compensation simply for being unemployed and a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage.

You must assume that a minimum wage job is all you are capable of. Actual facts show that every time the minimum wage is raised fewer minimum wage workers are employed. In truth, minimum wage jobs are meant to be an introduction to the working world not the final destination.

I also question why we should reward low achievement. A little life info for you. Set your goal high and work for them. Don't settle for less than your full potential.

Getting out of poverty is simple. Education is one key. Dropouts are twice as likely to live in poverty as those with a high school education. A college degree or vocational diploma is even better. Education is what opens doors to opportunity. Second, Don't get pregnant out of wedlock. Kids take a lot of time and energy. You don't need that responsibility when you are seeking an education or early job. Third, Stay clear of drugs and crime. Employers will drug test you and no one hires jail birds. Four easy steps that practically guarantee you won't suffer poverty.

I think you guys may be overthinking things, just a bit.
If people have most of their basic needs taken care of (not that indefinite supply of goods necessarily implies that in and of itself)
then they wouldn't have to spend the vast majority of their waking life working for things. It would open them up to other pursuits,
and humans by nature tend to be driven by higher level needs once their lower level needs are met.
Just look to Maslow's hierarchy to see what I mean.

I believe that in that scenario, if there are people who want to do something, but don't have the know how,
they would likely spend much of their newly acquired time seeking education. Education would probably then be in pretty high demand.
Perhaps at some point, maybe even that would be handled by AI. Though there would probably also be a number
of humans who gained fulfillment from teaching others and would be willing (and now able) to teach for free.
But without a widely produced and propagated teaching AI or Automation solution, there's really no guarantee
that there'd be enough teachers to effectively meet every person's need for education. So I think its good if we could find ways to incentivize it.

Beyond learning and education though, you'd also have folks who would use their time to master various crafts, like art or music,
while yet others would focus on things like sports, exercise, and general recreation.
A lot of these things might require more facilities than what we currently have, if more people are going to be pursuing them.
I posted a plan a while back for how it could work:

And how do you suppose they'd go about attempting to reduce the global population?

What exactly was their answer? Perhaps someone else might understand and be capable of explaining it clearly.

How stereotypical of the right wing. Why do we have a War on Poverty for over a generation, if what the right wing claims, ever worked?

A fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage help Labor with cost of living, with taxes, and with infrastructure costs.

Unemployment compensation simply for being unemployed solves simple poverty and is "no-fault" cause for Labor due to any natural rate of unemployment.

We often sit around and discuss important issues that can effect mankind. Great turmoil has to happen before any change can take place. Years ago the average CEO of large corporations made about 20 times the average employee wage. Today, before stock options and comps, they average about 70 to 1. Employers will continue to throw their employees enough crumbs to keep a real revolt from coming. Not all things are in their control though. A new age of robots, artificial intelligence and consolidation will actually require less employees than are needed now. Could be one reason that stopping illegal immigration and unskilled immigration could be a plus for Americas existing work force. We will still have Capitalism but with a social bent to it. So next time your in the universe, drop in, and say hello.

Name calling at people who disagree with you never works. It just makes you look like an ******. But that seems to be the road people with limited intelligence always take. The war on poverty didn't work and will never work. Simple reason there is no incentive to get out of it. Minimum wage jobs are not labor. Those are jobs that take no skill or education. They are like the Kia of the work world. You would never pay BMW prices for a Kia would you? Here is how it works in the real world. If you don't like working for peanuts in the minimum wage world, you improve yourself and make yourself marketable. I explained how to do that in my earlier post so I won't be repetitive. Unemployment compensation solves nothing. It doesn't pay enough to live on and is temporary. The unemployment rate is at a 50 year low. If you can not find a job, you are a major loser. A simple fact of life is those with their hand out always want more. Moochers will always mooch and are never satisfied. The parasites of society would suck us all dry if we let them.

Life is simple. It takes money to live. If you aspire to sample the finer things in life it takes a lot of money. If you think people will carry you, you will be disappointed. If you think others should sacrifice so you can live better you are a greedy pig. Things that are earned are much more appreciated that those given. Success is not given it is earned. Poverty will only end when people take responsibility for themselves, do the necessary work, and make the sacrifices necessary to lift themselves out of the mess they are in.

We have the richest poor in the world. Even the right wing complains about it. Capitalism has done nothing to solve simple poverty.

Equal protection of the law; it takes morals. Social morals for free even under or form of Capitalism. capital coincidence or capital conspiracy.

You contradict yourself. How can you say we have the richest poor in the world then say Capitalism has done nothing to solve simple poverty?

You need to go to a country like Russia then you will know what poverty is. When I go to so called poverty areas in the US, you know what I see. First I see half of the people are obese, not just fat, Obese. They are not lacking food. Next, I see they live in homes and apartments. In their homes they have cable TV, furniture, electricity and heat. More than half the world does not have that. They have jewelry, tattoos, processed hair, customized cars, expensive clothes, espensive shoes, and IPhones. People in true poverty don't waste their money on things like that. They have disposable income. You will see a large presence of alcohol and drugs. Other examples of excess money. So don't come crying to me about poverty. The only poverty in this country comes from substance abuse or mental illness. Government handouts are more than enough to allow people to live with dignity.

lol. simple. Only the right wing fantasizes we have true capitalism instead of a command and mixed market economy. Our War on Poverty is a social program, the right wing like to whine about; capital coincidence or capital conspiracy for a capital bonus?

Now I understand. Your simple mind can't grasp that the reason we have money to pump into social programs is because we operate out of a Capitalist Economy. Social programs have only been around for the last century or so, our capitalist economy has been rolling since America was nothing but a bunch of colonies.
