How can one be sure that there is a future? Before people start jumping on soapboxes, I am simply asking a logical question.

Dear Pollycy, what the book "1984" and yourself are discussing is taking place NOW! i the Good Ole U.S. of A. or should I say, Oceania? Before knickers start flying, there is an alliance betwixt the U.S., Briton, Germany, Italy, France and "we" are currently at odds with Russia, China, Iran (East Asia)

There is always a future and the future influences the past. Time is concurrent and the past, present, and future all happen at once.

We have a future. I'm not saying it's a good one.

Либо я слишком много читаю в том, что я просматриваю, и это имеет эффект, или то, что я читаю, опасно близко к тому, что происходит сегодня:
Libo ya slishkom mnogo chitayu v tom, chto ya prosmatrivayu, i eto imeyet effekt, ili to, chto ya chitayu, opasno blizko k tomu, chto proiskhodit segodnya:

Either I am reading too much into what I peruse, and it is having an effect OR what I read is dangerously close to what is taking place today:

Some say that it will be a neo-feudalism, 21st century styled, the outcome of open borders slave labor globalism compliments of the parasites who bought off DC.

Wow, cell phones another invention from one of those stinking Capitalist. I am surprised one of you crusaders would allow yourself to be suckered into buying such an evil Capitalist device. Next thing you know you will buy a car or shoes or another of those Capitalist supplied gadgets.

lol. socialism took us to the Moon and back, last millennium; capitalism is still trying to find a profit motive.

the Only reason we are not on Mars, is because Nixon gave us a nationalized and socialized, war on drugs instead of a Mission to Mars.

I see, comrade Armstrong, Buzz and the rest of the commune all hitched a ride to the moon to plant beets and sip herb tea. Silly me, I always thought the space program was funded with money from those stinking capitalist tax payers. I don't think you need to go to Mars, you obviously have plenty of "space" between your ears.

And a little history for you comrade, Obama not Nixon killed the Mars mission.

Some of what we call space exploration is actually monument building. It's a waste of resources. Research and number crunching is where the real benefit comes from. An unglamorous, thankless job though it might be.

I even sent a message to Obama to that effect back when he was still President.

You may be right. However, some see space as an untapped source of nearly unlimited resources and possibly even a place to build a colony. With the earth's population steadily growing both of those are attractive possibilities. None of that will be possible without research and exploration.

Proof that you can't cure stupid. "No profit motive", now that is rich. All those Capitalistic satellites controlling about every technology on earth came about due to that space program.

But humans don't have the resources to exploit them.

It's no good travelling to the asteroid belt for a meal, you will starve before you get there.

The private sector has still not gone to the Moon and back; why is that?

How can you say that? Every single component on those Apollo spacecraft was built by the private sector.

You still don't get it. Why has the private sector not gone to the Moon and back, on their own initiative, without government, command economics?

You don't get it. The private sector did go to the moon. Their initiative was contracts from the capitalist government. You need to tell me what socialist government or group ever went to the moon or did any major endeavor on their own. Socialism only work until it runs out of other people's money. You'll find that out first hand when your mom throws you out of her basement.

By the way. Here are six private sector groups that are working on space travel. Name six socialist groups doing the same.

No, they didn't. It happened via command economics, not a profit motive.
