The WH isn't able to cite the authority by which Capt. COVID can make good on his threat.

WH Won't Say What Authority Trump Has To Cut Funding To Schools That Don't Reopen
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday wouldn’t specify what authority President Trump has to cut funding for schools...
    talkingpointsmemo.com

We know what this is about. The country will struggle to fully re-open the economy if schools can't provide what is essentially day-care for millions of kids, preventing the parents of young kids from going back to work.

The organizing principle of Trump's reaction to COVID from the beginning has been to prevent damage to the economy. He has done this largely by downplaying the health risks from the virus and thus by not providing leadership to prevent its spread. The result, a resurgence of the first wave and now demands that the resurgence be ignored for the sake of enhancing his re-election chances by ramping up economic activity. He couldn't care less that this will put more people's health in jeopardy.

"President Trump on Wednesday intensified his demand that schools fully reopen this fall, slamming the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pressuring it to loosen guidance and threatening to cut funding for schools that do not open.

The CDC was already planning to issue new guidelines for schools in the coming days. But Vice President Pence on Wednesday explicitly tied the effort to Trump’s ire.

“The president said today we just don’t want the guidance to be too tough,” Pence told reporters. “And that’s the reason next week the CDC is going to be issuing a new set of tools.”
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/educ...52d400-c14b-11ea-b4f6-cb39cd8940fb_story.html

Basically, Trump is demanding the CDC relax the guidelines it issued. Ones that reflect their best judgement about how to safely open schools.

THIS WOULD BE A SCANDAL OF TREMENDOUS MAGNITUDE IF HILLERY DID IT.

But with Trump it's just another day ending in "Y."

Translation: Why can't we burn the economy to the ground and destroy the lives of millions to ensure that Trump doesn't get re-elected?

The liberals have a great plan for America don't they?

Except that even Red states aren't fully open, with some having closed down certain businesses that had re-opened. So how is that a Liberal thing???

Kids don't die usually from COVID, so why not send them back to school.

Wow. I guess that means only kids are in school or couldn’t act as a vector for the disease.

My guess? It’s a public statement on how he’s handling this crisis. If kids can’t go back to school in the fall, that means it’s going to be so much worse and people are going to blame him.

Sure - just keep out the adults and all will be fine. Who needs teachers, cafeteria personnel, counselors, janitorial and administrative staff, anyway?

Anyway, our kid will not be going physically to a school building next month. He can finish up online. My husband and I typically get sick in August/September, anyway, once the little snot factories all start meeting up again, so we see no point in doubling down on that this year, since the thing we could catch is so much worse compared to other years.

Just wanted to point out kids wouldn't be the only ones in the schools. There would be adults, some in their 60s.
Now, before you lose your mind and make incorrect assumptions, I have no skin in the game regarding kids in primary school so I don't care either way if schools are open or not.

We all will probably get it eventually. Its like the chicken pox but much less deadly. We cant just sit in our houses for the next 2 years. Flu vax only has a 40% success rate, do you think a rushed vax for covid will be much better?

I feel badly that you felt compelled to make a false assertion about the position of those of us who want to see the economy re-opened in a safe, sustainable way. But..........that's what happens when folks like yourself who advocated for re-opening too early and without the proper protocols are left defenseless by the objective fact the virus has surged because of it.

My county of 100,000ish people. 15 "deaths from COVID" in April. The same 15 "deaths from COVID" today. As the "deaths from COVID" are 100% extremely comorbid and elderly here, the "deaths from COVID" in my county are, as a matter of irrefutable actuarial FACT not statistically significant.

Anyone who advocates some "one size fits all" viral school response in light of flagrantly scammy COVID "numbers" from the big Democrat, public union, corrupt, bankrupt, "Soprano" States is a liar pushing lies.

Its all about how close to home the COVID death is in relation to you will determine how staunch you are to keeping the schools closed.

Generally, were we governed by competent, hard-working "public servants" in various states and areas all over the country, one would think that. But we are in fact governed by a thoroughly corrupt, dishonest, overpaid, underworked, overpensioned, arrogant, privileged, intellectually feeble bureaucrat class rife with affirmative action over merit in most areas, so who the F really knows what a COVID Death is or not?

especially when hospitals are incentivized to list all deaths and patients with COVID to get extra federal money for their hospitals.

Doctors are now suggesting quarantine is actually becoming more of an issue for the young in that they are deprived if the basic fundamentals of interaction with the bacteria and common viruses that help their immune system GROW.. They are concerned that this type of isolation will no doubt make them more susceptible and increase the severity of infections later in life..

This is not how humans/children develop and strengthen their immune systems..

I assumed you were aware the order for businesses to close down was from the governor. Won't make that mistake again ;)

Teachers continue getting paid. Put them back to work, unless that would harm their delicate sensibilities.

That's a huge stinky pile of BS. There is no extra money by having someone die of COVID in the hospital. I'm not sure which loon website told you that, but, you need to stay away from such loon sites and try to stick to facts.

Kids almost never die - and rarely even show symptoms -nor do they transmit the disease very well.
