HE is going to keel over when he gets home, because I have industriously emptied all non-current gear out of my wardrobe and put it in the incinerator out back to be burned. Hemlines have changed this season and last year's gear has got to go. All of it.

Of course this will trigger a shopping binge and that will temporarily make him quite uncomfortable, which I will evade, pretend not to see and completely ignore until it is verbalized, at which time I'll just laugh, look him in the eye and charm him into submission and he'll love it.

I do not see a single thing wrong with this tactic. I've always been honest that whereas money is not the main criteria, I do like some money. Before we married, I actually told him no matter how broke we might get from time to time, I will never not purchase essential items like clothes, makeup, huge amounts on hair care etc because that all goes to who and what you are and how you function and it makes no kind of sense for anyone in the relationship to let that side of it slide.

Most of us temporarily go a bit off course that way when kids are small and exhaustion sets in, but we have all seen relationships founder when self-esteem or emotional well being of one or other partner is destroyed in that way. Also, men like something to strive for that they think others want. If you look like (*)(*)(*)(*), how do you even motivate him to want to make you happy and why would he be happy himself...?

Anyway, I am going to get ripped into the online spending here, starting with summery sandals, through floaty summer tea dresses, little shrugs and ending with halter neck bathing suits. Who of you has anything to say about it?:chainsaw:

So much for donating your old wardrobe to charity. The Kidney Foundation will even send a driver here to pick up old clothes that are still in decent shape, plus you can right it off come tax time.

That is a good point actually. They are forever putting things through the door asking for old clothes.

Ok, they're going in the cupboard until the leaflet comes through the door. 3 loads are in plastic bags beside the burner. The load that's actually in it will have to burn.

Donate what you can and have fun with shopping. Love doing that.

Well, whatever rocks your boat .... but my question is - why throw away/burn good clothing when the needy would be grateful for it?

I donate my clothing to our Hospice Thriftstore, where prices are very reasonable or sometimes just give it to the women's support shelter and the homeless shelter and my daughters do the same......

Kronick made a good point and I will donate the 3 bags. We fundraise for Cancer Research and the Hospice and have just done the Moonlight Walk:

Now never mind all that, do US women wear wedges? You know, wedge soled shoes? Have you ever worn "Chinese Laundry" brand, does anyone know if they are comfortable? :magnify: (yes, it's a thinly veiled excuse to discuss fashion)

Animal print is in, but I am not keen because it can look cheap. However, I have a tailored black and white print which is very well cut, if you know what I mean. Now I have to go out with the girls and want shoes to match it, which I have found in the same print but I can't get to liking the print in shoes... would that be tarty or tasteful to you?

OMG...he found that brown shirt of his I put in the burner. I have to go. It'll be three falls and a submission now to get it back in the fire.

Do women have some kind of playbook, or is it just genetically ingrained by now? :)

My GF also likes to spend money... and I like to complain about it, works out pretty well. The only time it's a real issue is when it comes to major purchases, or when the shopping becomes a bit over board. But she's rational, and has a good understanding of math, it just takes some persistent arguing on my behalf. :D

Why write it off at tax time? Does that not negate the act of giving, if you are using it to take back? If you give, you should just give...

Lol~ "Chinese Laundry"? Is that an expensive name brand? I've never been into the name brand clothes. I know what I like, don't care about the name brand and won't spend a ton of $ on clothing.... JC Penney's is one of my favorite stores - beautiful clothes and when they have a sale, they have a good one.......

I'm a sales nut. I rarely pay full retail price for anything and I do my birthday and Xmas shopping thru out the yr for family/friends when I see a good sale going on........

No, look I'm not a name snob, I don't waste money. In most things, I try them, find the one that works and stick with it until they change the range, which if you wear makeup you will know they change the range with annoying regularity so you are forced to research-buy again until you find a new one that works.

I don't buy clothes with names and hate actual shopping, although you get better bargains if you can drag yourself into the shops. I shop about 4 times a year, at the changing seasons and if I can get away with it, it's online.

I like a bargain as much as you. However, I need sandals  , there is a pair of Chinese Laundry which catch my eye and I don't know the brand. I only like to buy quality, not for reasons of snobbery but because if you don't, you're usually back at the shops within weeks to buy another.

But you didn't answer my questions about fashion in US. Is there not another woman on this whole forum who likes girl stuff and isn't afraid to admit it in front of the men? I'm not a label snob, I just love hair, makeup, clothes...girly stuff. Those girls who don't want to admit they are girly in case the dafties hit on them, Girl Up :D and come in and talk girl stuff. I know you all loved this dress when it appeared in the Press last week...

Lol~ I didn't call you a 'name snob' or didn't mean to imply it, but tho't you wanted to discuss different brand names and the styles, which I'm not into....

You need sandals? The best I can tell you is to go to that good quality shoe store and start trying them on... I have faith in you, Viv, that you'll find exactly what you want.... shoes is the one item I will spend more $ on - cheapies don't work on my feet. One little pinch and they're gone.....

I'm a low maintenance 'girly-girl'. My day-to-day 'fashion' is typically very casual - mainly jeans & sweater/pullover & floor length muumuus on real hot days..... very little make-up, have never worn the stuff you smear on your face.... tried that once and didn't like it - to much make-up for me and short, shaggy, wash 'n' wear hair-do, which I love. I got rid of the long hair a long time ago - no more muss, no more fuss and much to Tom's disapproval, but he survived it...

If I have to get dressed up, the high maintenance 'girly-girl' that was instilled in me in my teen yrs and working in the office, dealing w/the public, surfaces and simplicity is my style. I enjoy the event, then I go home and quickly dive into my comfy clothes......

I never saw this outfit b/f - I liked it until I got to the gawd-awful fluffy fringe. I'd cut that stuff off........

You only shop 4 x's a yr? Wow. Don't you have any big department stores where you can buy food, then wander into apparel, household, toys, crafts, electronics, etc all under one roof?

I hope you found your Chinese Laundry shoes - if you did, post a pix, please ..... I'm curious.

Me neither, but for reasons of quality I sometimes dip in. I like Dior cosmetics, for example

See...you lost me at "go to the store". I hate going to the store. I work 10 minutes from all the stores in the city centre and Glasgow is very cosmopolitan and well stocked with designer stores and also with less than designer, I just don't like shopping.

That doesn't sound too bad, I am much the same in attitude. On a daily basis I don't choose what to wear due to workwear. I always wear makeup but it has to be natural and that is because natural looks better, not just because of work. That natural thing is the trick .

Hair...admittedly I spend a fortune on hair products. Blonde hair is often not naturally shiny, it needs a lot of help to get the sheen. Apparently in my new job I will have to wear my hair in a bun when I'm working. Otherwise I like it to be big and very shiny and a little bit messy. GHD hair straighteners...love them.

She wore it at Cannes a week or so ago. I like the creativity of the red on the red carpet, it's a striking effect and the white is then startling. She's very cunning. Feathers I don't go for either, although I have been known to sport a pink boa relating to fundraising  and a glittery cowboy hat (for some reason).

I order online and have food shopping delivered every week. I don't mind a wander into shops for relaxed leisure shopping, but that once a week thing is disastrous. We have recently taken to shopping in Lidl though and I quite like that, as their stuff is more interesting than Tesco and their shop is a fraction of the size, so you can scoot through...

I got some very ordinary basic black and will have to keep looking for something stunning. I'm not happy. I want something prettier. Tomorrow I go out for lunch, my best friend is married to an Italian and is an ex beauty queen who now makes loads of money. She will appear like a vision of Italian fashion. Also my cousins are taking me out on Tuesday, they are 10 years younger and one is a solicitor who looks like a movie star before you even start. The other two are also stunners. I'm not having it. There will be some serious digging into that wardrobe tonight.
