I didn't see a Mini-14 in the list of firearms used by the shooter. https://www.ktnv.com/news/las-vegas...idence-from-las-vegas-shooter-stephen-paddock
My error, that shooting was in a Lockheed Martin plant in Meridian, Mississippi where 7 people where killed by a shooter using Winchester 1200 shotgun, 12 gauge, and Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic rifle, .223 caliber.
Well, I never heard about any mythical assets being ascribed to the AR15 besides its ease of use and its popularity.
The classic example is the Norway shooter, who holds the world record for deaths in a single person shooting.
I believe the reason is media hypes the AR-15, and copycats, not understanding firearms, go for it to carry out their last will upon innocents.
Any idea of the firearm used there? I have been following this trend for three decades now and would appreciate any information you could provide.
Back to the original point on what you said about the AR 15: The Ruger Mini 14 is also readily available, easy to use and known to work. So the question is still why are people choosing the AR over something like the Mini 14? It's as 6Gunner said, it's media hype about the scary black gun with the pistol grip. That is why the crazies are getting them to shoot other people. It is the gun of choice because of media advertising.
Why do they use anything else then? Why did we go 48 years after we first sold them for a civilian to use them in a mass shooting?
I never meet anybody who thought the AR15 was scary. Besides, the only time Gunner is right is when he likes the same guns I like.
I don't know, the shooters are closer to your generation than mine, you tell me. Did you bring up a bunch of nutjobs?
Mass shooters range in age from high school to nearly retired. Is it just the nutjob shooters using AR-15s and the normal shooters using the pistols, lever action rifles, bolt action rifles, the revolvers, the pump action shotguns, the double barreled shotguns and the .22s?
Address the actual point being raised. Why is the AR-15 being selected by those intent on committing a mass shooting in an almost exclusive fashion? Why is every other similar type of firearm, be it the AK-47, Mini-14, or any of the hundreds of others currently available on the private market, being completely ignored?
It's not. More people are killed in mass shootings with handguns than 'assault weapons' of all kinds, let alone AR15s.
Anybody who thinks the AR15 is somehow more dangerous than any other semi-auto carbine. Geez, have you even been halfway listening when politicians start trumpeting about AR's?? Right back atcha. The "nutjobs" are the result of our new SJW society that thinks "no" is a negative influence, doesn't think we should keep score in sports, everyone should get a participation trophy, and expecting proper grammar is somehow racist. Self-discipline and self-responsibility are relics of a bygone era and honor and integrity are laughed at. Every kid with any kind of spirit or enthusiasm is diagnosed with whatever mental disorder of the week is popular and is dosed with psychotropic drugs. Police are demonized and denigrated and thugs and gang members are lionized. I grew up in a society where gun ownership was widespread and normal; where people learned right from wrong and that there were consequences to their actions. Kids took guns with them to school for Show and Tell and to hunt game for the stewpot on the way home. End result? A safe, peaceful society with almost no crime to speak of... and certainly no mass shootings; at school or otherwise. The problem ain't the guns. It's the society that thinks the behavior of narcissistic sociopaths is something to be praised and emulated.
