I vote Ross whose behavior was the most execrable during the male nanny episode. I hate the term toxic masculinity but he helps prove the point of those embracing the term by being being the biggest ****** ever on TV. A total homophobe only because he is terrified of being identified as a homosexual himself as evidence by his cowardly pursuit of Rachel who is ready for a commitment.

Rachel is a close number two by being so insecure that she actually has to deeply punish anyone who crosses her. She even convinces another woman to shave off her beautiful hair because she is a threat to her relationship with Ross. Then she punishes Ross who broke off the relationship with the now bald girl for not accepting Rachel’s punishment.

Monica is number three for expecting total worship from everyone. Totally adolescent and we are expected to think is cute.

Joey is a womanizer who has no concept of the fact he is hurting women and doesn’t care when it’s brought to his attention. But then he is likely retarded.

Phoebe is the only one who ever truly challenges Rachel and Ross to grow up consistently. But she slips into her own psychotic world which makes her creepy. And she has no appreciation for Mike who adores her for some reason and even tries to start a relationship with a former boyfriend while in her present relationship. Deal breaker for me that woulda been!

Chandler is the only sympathetic character but his self esteem is so low it challenges that. Monica has no respect for him and lies to him constantly and he puts up with it because he thinks he can’t imagine another woman who would love him.

Maybe this 20 year old show should finally be taken out of syndication.

Rachel. Of course I never liked Jennifer Aniston in anything. Plus she had a strong slutty tendency.

I've probably seen most of the episodes more than once or twice. Still, if I come across it while surfing, I will watch at least part of an episode.

I'm a huge Jennifer Anniston fan.

And you obviously watched this show, full of characters you could barely stomach, for all those years, why?

I only followed it for a few years, it seems to me, but I don't know that I'd call any of them annoying. I guess Chandler & Ross were my favorites/most sympathetic; Phoebe & Joey I found least ingratiating. I don't now find that it was that memorable (I'm not much on reruns of things I've already seen, so quite a bit of time has passed since I've watched). I remember that Monica dated dentist Tom Sellec, & Rachel went w/ Bruce Willis. I remember Joey keeping The Shining in the freezer. I think some of the last episodes I saw were Rachel & Phoebe giving Chandler notes on erogenous zones after he & Monica were out in the open, and Ross w/ Aisha Tyler, who I used to think was funny back when she hosted a dating show called The Fifth Wheel.

I have a much fuller recollection of the older series Taxi, though that was a show that was an exception to my typical rerun embargo. Still, it's been a long while since I've seen that one, too.

The thing I find interesting about the Friends phenomenon is the vastly different fates ahead for the careers of those extremely well-known, & America-beloved, actors. The only one who really ended up a lasting, "star," was Anniston. I imagine it would be somewhat uncomfortable for them both if she & the actress who played Phoebe, years later, found themselves sharing a long, unexpected elevator ride.

Of course, the actor who played Chandler had some early film successes, then a number of failed series. And Matt Leblanc (Joey) had Episodes, which was apparently a pretty big deal. I think he may have had one other series that lasted a while/did all right, if not spectacularly.

Monica, however, reached her post-friends pinnacle w/ her other series about a group of wine-loving friends, I think on TBS? The name escapes me at the moment. It was moderately likable, but nothing special, & certainly a steep drop-off in visibility, prestige, & pay, from her earlier Friends career.

And Ross. Heart-throb David Schwimmer, definitely disappointed any Hollywood producers who saw him as the next Dustin Hoffman.

I hated phoebe. If she was the main of an episode I would skip it. Ross was annoying with his whining also. I never found Phoebe funny or thought she ever contributed anything of value to the show.
