This is interesting. It looks like there is strong support for universal background checks, banning mentally ill people from purchasing guns, and banning terrorists from purchasing guns. There is somewhat strong support for banning assault weapons, banning high capacity magazines, and tracking gun sales. It's too bad politicians often care more about pleasing special interest groups than representing the people who voted them into office.
Ayuh,.... It's to bad that progressive pollsters use misleadin', vague questions to produce false polls,.....
Since there is no direct link to the survey to show just what questions were asked, how they were worded, or any manner of verifying the results in an independent manner, the above means absolutely nothing of either significance or relevance.
These surveys only represent those who answer unidentified calls and have nothing better to do than take phone surveys. The questions are asked in a way to lead the participant to a desired answer. For example: Should the mentally ill be allowed to legally purchase firearms? Someone working in the field of psychology/psychiatry would not have time to answer these calls, but would know that "mental illness" is a broad term and that the question is too vague to produce a useful answer.
I think that laws designed to ensure the quality of ammunition and the effectiveness of guns themselves have a place in our laws. I expect that the weapons that we use should be well designed, and effective at their purpose. Making manufacturers of those weapons adhere to basic safety standards then, is fine with me. Is it too much to ask that we take on the onerous task of making a database of all of those folks who don't have guns? It might save a lot of time, and government services...
What I would get behind would be nation wide carry, a carry permit would be like a drivers license, mandatory minimum sentences for crimes committed with a gun, no plea bargaining, entering real mental health records into NICS and a lifetime ban on ownership for anyone convicted of a crime using a gun, no UBC but open NICS for private sales, that way the seller can make a choice, use NICS or take the chance of being prosecuted should one transfer a gun to a prohibited person and a federal pre-emption of all state gun restrictions, one set of basic rules nationwide.
A white list is a black list is a white list. IE whether you list "all the good people" or "all the prohibited people" or "all the possessors" or "all the non possessors" you end up with a list of the other category by making the list of the first. At least when you have all the names total, like the .gov does to start with.
