shut it all down and turn it into a museum. Meet online. Problem solved.

I never thought I would see the day that conservatives — ex-military to boot — would be shrugging so indifferently about one of our key federal buildings being breached. Y’all were more upset when a target boarded up their windows.

Such a strange nation we have become.

I guess Nancy doesn't want them dirty Michigan people eating at any of the house cafeterias that are literally on the campus they are protecting.

Indeed. Though the difference is that a courthouse actually conducts useful business where citizens go and interact. The capital building is occupied by scum who think they are isolated from the people. Like I said earlier, turn the building into a museum and conduct business online.

I don’t disagree with them conducting business remotely. Let their home states house them.

I wonder though, did you express such an opinion when the previous president had walls and fencing installed around the White House?

Do you think it's a good idea for our representatives to have conversations related to the nation's security and direction on their home computers? Wouldn't it be more expensive to provide security/police protection if these people worked from home? Why would anybody in their right mind put their own home and family at risk by agreeing to that?

Im not sure if I did on here, but I definitely disagreed with it. That property belongs to the people. I'm not a Trump fan, though I supported him over the alternative. I don't like either party. My views lie somewhere in between them. Or maybe somewhere outside of them, I dunno.

You don't think they are not having those conversations anyway? make the meetings so that anyone can listen in. It's not like I waltz down to DC to listen to them anyway. I watch them on my computer. I don't see how having them online would change that.

Of course they have open meetings, but they also have closed ones. If it's no big deal, why was everybody up in arms about Hillary's emails? It's a huge security risk.

I guess I just don't see how a zoom meeting or similar open to everyone to view is any different than sitting in the capital building. Both are just as public. In both there will be discussions and meetings held in secret. But rioters cant storm a zoom meeting. The public gets to visit the new capital building museum and business can be conducted without worrying about rioters. Plus it would cut down on carbon emissions from all the travel that politicians conduct. Boom. The environment wins too. The last one was kind of a joke, but actually makes sense now that I think about it, lol.

I agree many are full of themselves but I tend to advocate for preventive security, not reactionary. Besides, having federal government buildings burn to the ground every couple years is probably a bad look for democracy...but hey, maybe that is just me.

The politicians have only themselves to blame for turning us against eachother instead of bringing us together. Both parties are equally responsible for that. They reap what they sow. Having only 2 ridiculously corrupt political parties is also a bad look for democracy.

While I agree to some extent that politicians are not bringing us together, I believe the voters bear a great amount of culpability. Hate sells and politicans know this. It must be what the voters want.

The troops might be ordered to shoot anyone who offered to help them.

Quote: Why cannot the troops go home by now?

Because the dirt is gone, but the dust hasn't settled.

Meaning; A cloud of dust/lies was recently suspended in the air by Trump, and said lies re-agitated/infuriated his loyal supporters.

Hate comes from somewhere. It comes partly from politicians saying “we should have things this way because blah blah blah, but those guys over their want things this way and that will hurt us because blah blah blah”. And it comes from a refusal to compromise. If nobody compromises, which nobody seems willing to do, than it becomes all or nothing, which drives people to extreme actions... riots, protests, crime, etc etc.

I’m sure hate has plenty of other sources too.

It would open the system up to more hacking attempts. Local police departments would be tasked with protecting members in their homes which might cause a delay whereas the Capitol police ONLY have to handle that now. They are also trained in special procedures for that detail.

I am not opposed to changing the current system. I just am not sure paying these people for rental space in their homes and the cost of additional system security and law enforcement is worth it.

Just give them an office at the local state capital building. Every state should be responsible for their representatives. I don’t think there is a need for a centralized federal capital building, at least not where all the representatives meet. Administrative stuff, sure, but people are not going to storm a place where only administrative Record keeping is done. I don’t think there is any reason for politicians to go to DC very often in this day and age. Politicians traveling is probably just as expensive as states protecting them in their home state.

The link doesn't say whether or not the Sargeant used his chain of command to sort out the problem. MRE's were provided to the troops instead which it seems the troops didn't like
as well. I hope the Staff Sargeant get's his arse handed to him whe his superiors find out he was the chain jumper and whiner. I spent 20 years in the military and know the importance of using the chain of command to solve issues.

Can't really argue with anything in this post but will add that perpetuating lies probably drives people to extremes more so then simple disagreements.

Now, I have a better understanding of your position. I can see how that would work. Now, how do we get them to get behind that plan? I'm sure they are loving their almost limitless expense accounts.

haha, that’s the real trick!! And I have no idea unfortunately. With only 2 parties, both who are drunk on power and their elite lifestyles, I’m sure they would work together to keep the status quo while further dividing us. It’s a real problem. I’m open to any suggestions, lol.
