Is this like Elizabeth Warren/Racheal Dolezal claiming inclusion into a racial/ethnic group they can't document? Or is this more symbolic like Bill Clinton as the first black president? Will this help him at all?

I believe you misunderstood him. He is saying he has lived in and has been a part of African-American communities. Unlike Dolezal and Warren, he's basically saying he understands and can help the community he claims to be a part of.

That said, he could very well be full of crap about helping anybody but himself.

Some clueless guilt-ridden white democrat tried to join the Congressional Black Caucus a few years ago and was shocked to find it was a racist segregated organization that did not admit non blacks

Yeah, if there was a white caucus, concerned with the economic travails of white working people, they would immediately be white supremists, nazis, racist, and child molesters. Does anyone doubt this? But double standards fit in with the hypocrisy we see today.

Yet no comparison is made Asians who have their eyes made more Caucasian.
Nor nappy hair straightener and bleaching cosmetics.
That's all okay and not worth comment.

    :hmm:

Considering the Congress has been nearly all white for 200 years, it's kind of redundant to have a "white" caucus. It's the default setting.

Here is an interesting film that deals with race relations before the modern era

    or like Trump

"Donald Trump claimed he was of Swedish ancestry - but it's a lie"

    http://nordic.businessinsider.com/d...s-of-swedish-ancestry---but-its-a-lie-2016-8/

"It seems the Trump family has been lying about their ancestry for a couple of generations. Donald Trump himself claimed in his book Trump: The Art of the Deal from 1987 that his father came to America as a boy, having emigrated from Sweden."

“In the 1940s, people, especially in the real estate industry in New York, didn't want to hear that somebody was German — so let's get rid of that. Let's be Swedish,”

personally I do not think Congress should have racial, gender or religious groups, they should all work for ALL Americans equally

I prefer a diverse Congress, but not a segregated one
