I'm not quite sure how the contemporary Jewishness can be pinned back to 4000 years ago. I imagine this will be a point of contention for many centuries.

To say someone is Jewish can be emphasize through cultural characteristics as recognized by the society → which is not discernible by inherited characteristics. Jewishness can addressed in terms of ancestral linkage and DNA lineage (DNA is a genetic Ethnicity profile, inherited characteristics).
