I think "evil" is a binary state so the notion of more or less evil is simply a rhetorical device.

Yeah, because firebombing German civilians was THE way to beat the Nazis.

If we're just going by body count, Mao wins (so I picked 'other' cuz hes not on the list).

Yes actually. Or at least, part of the way. But I am fully aware that you are incapable of understanding the concept of Total War so there’s no real point in trying to explain it again. We’ve already done this dance.

You realize they were tons of attempt to reform the church before ? The waldensians, catharism, hussite, if it wouldn't have been Martin Luther it would have been someone else, the reform couldn't be avoid (I'm not christian).

I would say Muhammed. In a way dictators are very alike, but Muhammed is the one who would have the biggest influence. Their is still 1 billion muslims on earth, some accepted the evil nature of islam, the other deny it.

Communism lasted one century, most people realized that the dream of Marx always turned into a nightmare, and so even if true communism never existed, he could never exist and will always turn into a horror.

I selected “other” because the person that I KNOW is the most evil person, who has ever lived, is responsible for creating the idea of a world that has caused devastation that had never been known before his existence.

    Elizabeth Bathory.

I don't give into the typical, contemporary anglosphere "vilains" such as the other choices (apart for GK) as I do believe that modern times heads of states are, for the most part, people with what were at the start noble ideals. So were many dictators, such as Caesar.

Elizabeth Bathory had no such ideals.

Joseph Stalin created a penal system with Incarceration Rate as high as Incarceration Rate in USA 2017. About 2.1 million people have died in GULAG. These are terrible numbers, but Hitler was responsible for over 20 million civilian deaths.

I am not even sure Stalin is a villain -- his reforms saved USSR from defeat and genocide by Germany.

Columbus and Kind Leopold of Belgium deserve a place on the same list, and just as high up.

    I've got two.

Mohamed has been responsible for more human misery than anyone else.

Karl Marx is right up there, though, and I care more about the people to whom he brought misery.

Both of them are still causing death and destruction through their followers today.

But a lot of that body count is due to poor agricultural planning, not deliberate massacres. If unintentional deaths count . . . let's just keep in mind that Columbus's "discovery" ended up wiping most of the native populations of two continents. Mao doesn't hold a candle to that.

Both Stalin and Mao (and Pol Pot iirc) deliberately sabotaged agriculture bureaucratically under their regimes to starve uncooperative regions and decrease unwanted population.

Jesus how much stupidity, intolerance, inquisitions and wars were done under his name plus he never did act to prohibit slavery by at least his followers.

Last I looked, it could have been deliberate sabotage or completely inept central planning. If the later, again, no Soviet central planner can hold a candle to the colonialists. I'm not even sure if they could hold a candle to the colonialists when it comes to deliberate damage.
