I'm curious as to what degree "body count" factors into who you (or other Posters) consider more "evil":

    1. A leader who executes 10,000 innocent civilians in a painless manner

    OR

    2. A leader who executes 1,000 innocent civilians in a cruel & painful manner

As for me, the more evil leader is the one that uses the most torture on the most innocent---depending on the circumstances. However, I try not to give any leader a break based on their race, religion or culture---as in my opinion---all "great" leaders should automatically "know better."

Thanks, I think that a leader's cruelty & direct involvement with the infliction of suffering trumps the "body count"

As is your own, but opinions don't need merit, they are opinions.

So your saying evil only exists in the mind of the one that perceives it? Do you think morality is all relative and ethics are situational? That is what is wrong with the world today. Everything is seen only in shades of grey.by many.

No, evil is a force and it exists. There are different degrees of evil, of course, but evil always has its desired effects to varying degrees, It kills, steals, and destroys. From the little white lie told to the IRS, to Weinstein's degrading forcibly of women, to Paddock actually mowing down individuals from the 32nd floor. Those are just varying degrees as of late. Unless we know to discern evil, as a society we are doomed to suffer it's consequences!

Based on what you've just said, I believe that the word "evil" is too nebulous for the purpose of this thread. I think that the word "malevolent" is a more specific word than "evil" in describing the depravity of a cruel, murderous & destructive individual.

For example, I think that a leader who directly participates & takes sadistic joy in the massacre of 1,000 people is more malevolent than a leader who remains detached but indirectly facilitates the massacre of 10,000 people.

Additionally, I don't believe that the atrocities of a mentally ill individual should be judged on the same level as someone who is sane but commits heinous acts

You would need to add Nero Caesar to that list.

H.H.Holmes. Everyone seemed to pinpoint Leaders of Countries. Those leaders and their countries were all pretty much at war when their supposed evilness happened on mass killing.
With Holmes, he killed over 100 people for financial and personal gain. He ENJOYED killing people and experimented in various methods. He built a Castle with body drops, slides, and barrels of acid and autopsy tables in the basement in anticipation of killing people. This man was evil incarnate. He had no altruistic aims like the leaders of the countries. He did it solely for personal gain and pleasure.
That is what evil looks like.

There are different kinds of evil so no one person could qualify.

I think that the reason people choose "leaders" is because malevolent leaders create a higher "body count".
I don't believe that "body count" is as an accurate measure of an individual's malevolence as the degree to which the malevolent individual is personally involved & takes sadistic pleasure in the torment of others.

I think that H.H. Holmes would be an excellent choice. Unfortunately, there are many like him both dead and alive, well known & unknown

Mohammed. He was taught a good doctrine and then superimposed his evil ideas about bullying, rape, murder, and genocide on top of it.

Evil is evil It all goes in the same direction. From a Christian standpoint... all sin falls short of the glory of God. That is why we need Salvation because everyone sins to some degree. The Catholic Church, however purports the idea there are degrees of sin (some worse than others) When looking to "Holiness" there are no "degrees of sin". They are all the same. In our fallen world, however, the punishment must fit the crime. Still, ALL sin is evil.

This reply ^^^^^dated to March 6, 2014. Yet none of the posters alleged Trump is the most evil. This is now October 2017 and almost to a man or woman, the Trump haters insist he is the most evil human that lived.
