    Carlos Santana

Slash, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana were very influential on my own guitar tone and playing.

As a matter of fact, I cited those 3 (Guns N' Roses/Jimi Hendrix/Carlos Santana) as influences in my first musician ad I ever posted when I was 16 that had the headline 'Young Guitarist Seeks Band'.

Then later, when I was 22/23, I learned of more bands like Korn, Slipknot, SOAD, RATM, Metallica, Pantera, even Steve Vai got a mention with his track Bad Horsie which I thought was amazing.

Before that I used to rock to anything still, but still tonally identify and strive for Slash/Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana.

Carlos Sanatana's sustained note in Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile) is amazing, and I love his rich tone anyway.

I heard a beautiful guitar tone in London coming out of this guy's car.... it was traffic, so he wasn't really going anywhere but still I was walking he was driving, and he was playing it loud, and I had magnetted towards it, and I asked and finally 'struck a chord with the driver' so he was driving, I was walking, we were talking, and he couldn't really hear me walking along trying to ask him what guitarist that was. I say London, but I mean Thornton Heath 7 miles due south of Charring Cross; basically my doorstep.
So anyway, I finally got my message through, and he said 'It's Jeff Beck'.
    That was cool.
I mean, yeah, I hadn't heard Jeff Beck sound like that before, but as soon as I heard that name, I understood why it was so amazing.
I forgot what song it was though if that driver told me or not, but I remember thinking 'wow, Jeff Beck.'

I've heard that Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple co-founder) is kind of a jerk, but he is really seriously great since the 70's at least.

Seen her show a couple of times.
I rum into her bass player quite frequently.
His GF works at a club that I play a lot.

She has a good gig going with the looks but the guitar playing is very pedestrian.

This is a "best guitarist" thread, not a "would you bang the guitarist" thread.

    That said, wood.
