Damn , I might just look into that.

Thing is I'm a retired old man. I don't have a job to stay close too nor need a social life. Most people find South Carolina about as pleasant a place to live in as Georgia, which has a reputation as being a rather miserable place for younger people.

And isn't Durham in North Carolina? (about as unpleasant too. not to insult the states, they just aren't nice places and really never were, They didn't use them as prison colonies for nothing.)

Obama did try to raise taxes on the wealthy (and was blocked by the repubs); but yes, his fiscal conservatism is neoliberal ideology (ie the need to achieve balanced federal government budgets*, when the goal should be the continuous sustainable utilisation of available real resources including labour)
*of course the repubs ignore fiscal conservatism when they are in power...

Here is prof. John Harvey's refutation of the fiscally conservative orthodoxy of the likes of Krugman, Summers and Rogoff:

Government would be preferable if entrenched poverty can be eradicated and increasing inequality is checked.

The government of Chile is currently facing the results of condoning economic injustice on this scale.

btw government - apart from "insulating the individual from government" - also exists to "promote the Common Welfare" (see preamble to the US Constitution) recognising that competing individuals, by themselves, will not achieve this goal.

Check the fake picture posted in this thread:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...and-suing-and-suing-….564816/#post-1071193625

This tells you why America is becoming more divided.

Fake news, photoshops and conspiracy stories, all peddled by social media and political trash blogs that make a living off spreading the division and fear. And we haven't seen the worst yet, deepfake videos are coming that will make people believe ANY lie that is used against the other side.

You are part of it, unless you disown the fake news that comes from your side.

I'm not sure that many Democrats became Republicans. If we go by Pew Research numbers the Republican Party has been within the 21-30% since Eisenhower, I'd say averaging 26/27% rarely going above 30%. The Democratic party affiliation/identification had highs of 51% back in 1961 and 64, it has been dropping since then. Averaging 45% since then to Reagan. Then 35% from Reagan until Obama and down to 30% as of 31 Oct 2019. Independents on the other had has risen from 20% after Eisenhower to 40% today.

    https://www.people-press.org/interactives/party-id-trend/

I'm sure some Democrats did become Republicans and vice versa. The thing is if a lot of Democrats did, the Republican Party would have grown instead of remaining fairly steady in their 27% range give or take a couple, three points. I to think the drop the Democrats have incurred was their own doings. Back at their heighth, the early 60's and before, since FDR the Democratic Party was known as the big tent party. It had its conservative and liberal wings, they represented the working man and the middle class. The GOP was known back than as the businessman's country club.

Times have changed and so has the two parties. Now there isn't that big gulf between them. They're fairly even if one believes Gallup 30-27 Democratic Party advantage. This is just what the numbers show.

Did you read your article or just the title?

    A few key points:
“Gen Z Republicans are much more likely than Republicans in older generations to say government should do more to solve problems, and they're less likely to attribute the Earth's warming temperatures to natural patterns, as opposed to human activity”
“62% of Gen Z sees diversity as good for society”
“most comfortable with changing cultural norms around things like gender identity”
“Members of Gen Z are generally anti-Trump and more likely to be informed on social issues. But when it comes to labeling themselves, Gen Z doesn't necessarily see itself as a generation of Democrats.”
“More than half of Americans age 13 to 21 believe things are generally going poorly or very poorly in the US, according to Business Insider's poll.”
”Some 70% of Gen Zers believe the government should be doing more to solve problems, according to a poll conducted by Pew in late 2018. That figure is significantly higher for Gen Z than for any other current generation, with 64% of millennials and less than half of baby boomers believing the same”
“Gen Z is seeking politicians who can address issues that are personally relevant to them and to people they know, whether that means LGBT protections, addressing climate change, fixing income inequality, or legalizing pot”

I mean you had an article basically saying how screwed the current batch of republican platforms are for younger generations and you sourced it as evidence that they are leaning conservative... Jesus christ, talk about a low information effort.
Did you think I wouldn’t read it like you obviously didn’t?

I gave you a like for further proving my point, enjoy — you earned it!

who determines if driving speeds are too high on our roads

the fact is, things have to change, or society as we know it will crash

the rich have gotten greedy, but your right, society will fight back eventually

more and more people living in cars, vans, the street... the government is now creating laws to prevent people sleeping in their cars (who decides that?)

national forests that were once free camping are now starting to charge $10 or $15 a day to reduce the number of people checking out from society

cities have made laws preventing and even charging walmarts for letting people sleep in their parking lots overnight - when the people fight back the rich buy laws

get the $$$ out of politics, stop the rich from buying laws

    https://www.dailydot.com/layer8/is-it-illegal-to-sleep-in-your-car/

"Since 2014, over 81 towns have banned sleeping in a motor vehicle, mostly to cut down on the number of homeless taking refuge inside a car. These laws are being met with harsh criticism from organizations tasked with caring for the homeless."

Society already determines the rent. A bloated government that has its hands in all aspects of our lives is detrimental to society's freedom.

Those who are truly concerned about the homeless should pool their money and build cheap (or free), compact housing for them.

Neighborhoods like war zones? You know who? The Australian with the America obsession has been on ignore for quite a while now.

Practically everyone at every level has "gotten greedy." When an adult person thinks that someone else owes him/her free housing, free medical care, and free food, and a free college education, that is nothing but outrageous greed. When an adult person on this forum thinks that *I* owe someone else the same, that is nothing but greed.

The United States is nowhere near crashing. Those who are willing to put in the hard work and make the sacrifices have glorious opportunities to be successful. Those who feel they are owed a living and thereby do nothing to make themselves employable deserve to fail.

We'll have to see how it goes from here. Courts have already struck down some of those laws according to the link.

Your link didn't name all the cities/towns that have these laws, and I don't have the time or inclination to do the research. It would be interesting to see which groups control the laws in those cities.

I would still like to know what you meant by "rift raft" in your previous post. Who/what is that and why should they/it be evicted? Would that contribute to the homelessness problem?

I wish you had shown your sources along with the findings. When I said Democrats have become Republicans, it is not due to the two parties being almost clones. There are vast differences. The term Big Tent was concocted by the Democrats. As was this idea the GOP was for business. Actually somebody needs to help business so long as we desire jobs.

yes, I know the right doesn't want cheap health care, free roads, free fire departments, free education, ect....

the United States is on the verge of another 1929.. only worse

I remember those "good ole days", when it was "live and let live".
You were right or left or none of the above. It didn't matter.
Looking back I think maybe the beer had something to do with it.
Take our alcohol and drugs away....
and we'd probably "collapse in on ourselves" even sooner.

Nation is coming apart already. It wont be the Trump supporters revolting it will be the deepstate / obama people who will revolt against Trump.

I can officially say with confidence that our nation will not survive the 2020 election.

Or if it does, it will be radically different than the vision of our founding fathers.

You can quote me on that.

The nation is divided because the media and the left wing has chosen to defy Trump. This is called a rebellion and it's taking place in the hearts and minds of every democrat as we speak.

Had Trump run for election in 2012 we would be okay. But he left it to late.

    Trump will either:

    a) be forcefully removed from office
    b) killed

He will not be relected. Because If he is re elected, he will put all the criminals in jail. The left cannot have that happen under any circumstances. And they will do whatever it takes to remove him, even if that means violating the constitution.

The country is so divided because the people of this country have allowed themselves to be dumbed down to its own History. They do not understand the identities of those who have engineered the false narrative of the agenda that was designed to make them Economic Slaves since 1871 through today.

The Agenda is the Agenda itself. And, you have been living your entire life under said Agenda since 1871 without ever knowing it. A "Divided America" is but one (1) component of that Agenda. In fact, a "Divided America" is absolutely essential and necessary in order for the Agenda to succeed. And, succeed, indeed, it has. The "Agenda" has been a massive success in producing Economic Slaves at each others throats and without ever knowing or suspecting they are Economic Slaves.

Of course, if you say this to the typical Dumbed Down United States "Citizen," they will shoot back that you are a Conspiracy Theorists. All the while they live their entire lives in the middle of a Conspiracy, for which THEY are the key manipulated tumbleweed being blowing from "event" to "event" and never gaining an understanding as to WHY their lives seem so completely out of their control.

This is precisely why we are so divided. That divide has always been by design. Your job, at this stage, is to study your World History enough to understand WHO is behind your manipulation.

Well the rise of the internet and social media and whatnot is certainly playing a role. Now virtually every person in America has a proverbial bullhorn from which they can scream their personal beliefs about everything. Back in the day you had to actually go out and meet folks and talk to them to get to know anything about them. Nowadays you click on a persons social media profile and their whole life story is on there. So society picks and chooses who they will even speak to before even meeting one another, mainly the younger folks who live their lives via Facebook and other sites like that. Gone are the days of actual interaction to where you sat down and spoke to folks, now we won't even so much as interact with someone who's internet profile says they are a Christian, or Liberal, or Conservative, or whatever. We only seek out those who fit our own personal beliefs which is doing nothing but isolating everybody into various subgroups who refuse to interact with those outside of their own bubble.

Plus the media turning from raw news to hundreds of various opinionated news agencies it's hard to tell what's even true or not anymore. The sheer amount of variance regarding the exact same topic between news sites is astonishing. The media is telling it's respective viewers how to feel about something. Take a look at the same topic, regardless of what it is, and notice the differences between CNN and Fox News for example. Both will put their respective spin on it instead of just posting the raw facts. They do that because they know how their respective viewers think and they cater to their particular ideology which further just entrenches folks within their own bubbles.

It's a tunnel vision society that we have created ourselves and continue to reinforce. We are prejudiced against those who do not share our own personal beliefs to the point where we won't even say hello to one another. I find it telling that pretty much everybody believes that prejudice is wrong, yet each of the various ideological factions in the US have somehow convinced themselves that they are justified in being prejudice towards each other...

If you judge somebody based on anything other than who they are as an INDIVIDUAL person then you are the problem. Don't blame the government for dividing the nation. We divided the nation, the government doesn't have mind control over you, you are choosing to act like this.

One of the great fears of many at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 was the rise of "factions," or what we call "parties" today. As those different factions have grown over our history, they have used their increased powers to subvert much of the "original intent" on the founders. IMO, there are three major factors in this corruption: gerrymandering, campaign finance laws and party co-opting of popular third party ideas. Prior to gerrymandering, a candidate for the House faced "mixed electorates," and were more independent of party hierarchies. That freedom allowed for the evolution of a broader based definition of "national interest," which each elected House member brought to Washington. IOW, it was far more of a bottoms-up system than a top-down system. The drawing of congressional district lines to create "safe districts" decreased the independence of individual House members and, given, the bicameral nature of Congress and the change in the election of the Senate (away from their own state political bases in state legislatures to state popular votes) had the effect of putting g "party loyalty" over national interest.
But, gerrymandering itself would not have been possible without changes in the national economy and demographics. "Urban politics" evolved with industrialization, creating concentrations of like-minded voters. The expansion of the electorate itself, via the Civil War and Women's suffrage movements, combined with the decline in electorate property-ownership requirements also helped to facilitate gerrymandering, which increased the power of the parties.
Campaign financing and its influence grew with the centralization and growth of party politics made possible by industrialization and the concentration of income. And, finally, both parties have heretofore, co-opted the most popular of third party ideas, which has furthered polarization and stifled the growth of third parties (along with a winner-take-all electoral system).

    "rift raft" is a "tell"...

Nothing is free - someone is going to pay with their valuable time. And of course the right wants inexpensive health care - but the right generally understands that utopia and reality are two different things.

Have you begun to prepare for that? Investments will be worthless, so you should definitely get out of the market. Money will be worthless, so it would be wise to buy lots of freeze-dried food. A clean supply of water will be needed. You will also need to purchase some arms and ammunition. Are you doing these things? Or is your statement just talk?

No...he won't be re-elected because he's violating the Constitution. He'll either be ousted by conviction upon impeachment or voted out of office. And, the big story of 2021 will be his indictment and trial.

I agree with the above post. Let me explain my beef vs the Democrats.

In a nutshell, they started to get very serious about creating tons of new laws when FDR became president. This has nothing to do with the news given it is the news that has yet to make a huge deal out of this. "I mean serious laws. Laws that have cost jobs. Take my case. I was highly regulated by the State of CA when Dodd Frank was created by Democrats. What did it do to me? Forced me to blow close to $1200 to add the then then new Federal license to my name. And worse, though the state license is for 4 years, the Dodd Frank license lasts a lousy 12 months and it is repeat all over. More schooling. I have been taking courses since 1972. A lot of them were in finance and the laws over finance. I had a college semester in fact on only Finance. CA is no slacker when it comes to ruling over us. I in fact moved to Idaho with part of it to escape such laws. Still due to Dodd Frank, a good part of my income and time had to be devoted to complying with those Federal laws. To give you another example, it was in 2000 that I flew from CA to VA to attend more financial education. So do not suppose such classes are down the street. We did not need Federal licenses. We did not need more schooling. We had plenty of it.
