Is it because they know that anything that stimulates voting works against them? Or do they honestly fear that it would encourage voter fraud? I'm not sure how that would work unless the family sends in grandpa's ballot after he dies of Covid-19

The only way that the GOP can win a Presidential Election is if voters are supressed.

    Vote-by-Mail Increases participation.

And if participation is increased, the GOP is a sure loser.

Obviously the GOP is going to be against it.

The increasingly right wing Republican party is a minority. They know this, and act to end democracy. They will use any trick, as they are the rightful lords of our country. Visit Mara Lago, you will see it in action. Those are the people RULING our country. They don't need votes, they don't need legitimacy. They only need their money.

This is now an oligarchy, ran for and by the rich. The impediments to ruling this country BY THE PEOPLE, are many and subtle as well as blatant. Our justice system, really all our systems, are there, to protect the property and prerogatives of the rich.

Four ways Republicans "suppress" the vote, you ready?
    1. You must be a citizen.

    2. You must have ID.

    3. You must be alive.

    4. You can only vote once.

As often as both parties have 'found uncounted ballots' in someone's trunk or garage to magically give themselves the election, we should all be wary of numerous tactics, and by mail is one of them though mostly only when its combined with no id requirement same day registration etc. Which coincidentally is in the new stimulus bill, all 1800 pages of it.

    Pretty sure Trump said it.

Paraphrasing "If we go to vote by mail Republicans will never win another election."

Pretty much says it all in a moment of accidental truth.

    Updated for accuracy and completeness.

    1. You must be a citizen: And by that we mean White. And by that we mean European White. Northern Europe, none of those Mediterranean brownish types.

    2. You must have ID.: Which we will make as difficult as possible to obtain

    3. You must be alive. : If you're a Democrat. Otherwise? We'll look the other way.

    4. You can only vote once: See Number 3.

How does voting in person end democracy, it is how we have done it for well over 200 years. Hillary Clinton by FAR outspent Trump and who won? Bloomberg spent what $3B, how long did he last? The left claims Russia determined the election by spending $40,000 and I'm sure you voted for whom the Russians told you.

You act to end democracy, by making senators chosen by state, caging, gerrymandering and purging. You preach, how this is a republic, and the electors need not pay attention to votes.

I asked how voting in person end democracy. We should go back to the state legislatures choosing the Senators who are supposed to represent the State in congress and not be a political body as originally designed. Purging is necessary and required by law to help prevent voter fraud. And I note you did not address what I posted.

I can only speak for myself. It's because I don't trust Democrats. With vote-by-mail, it would be very easy to cheat.

Golly you are just so smart.....

But just for the sake of discussion
Require a birth certificate. Particularly for older black people many of whom never saw the inside of a hospital till the turned 65.
Don't have one? The charge is $20. PROVIDING you can show proof you are that person.
Now let's, just for fun, make you go to a DL office to get your shiny new ID.
    No car? Not out problem.
DL office only open 2 days a week? Not our problem.
Stand in line for 3 hours? Hey, you're only 96 years old!

And on and on and on.

Yeah, we should just hand them out like candy. Those poor black people, cant handle a task everyone else can. It's a wonder any have jobs or drive a car or open a bank account or buy age restricted products or rent anything and on and on. If I was a minority I would find that offensive and racist as hell.

Isn't that what Democrats use to get welfare, alcohol, cigarettes, and lottery tickets?

What "ends lives", voting in person? No more than going to the grocery store.

A professor listed things very dangerous, and voting was one, etc, the surprise was, he didn't think grocery was one of them. Sure he said, don't hang out, keep your distance etc, but he thought that was not to be listed.

How'd they get on welfare and social security? How have they ID'd themselves all their lives. A birth certificate is not required but having a copy of your own is what responsible people do and getting one didn't require a hospital. How many canards can you come up with.

They are free if you cannot afford to pay for one. How did they register to vote without identifying themselves? How did they enter the nursing home and collect Social Security and Medicare or Medicaid. And on and on and on. They will even send clerks of court to nursing homes to make sure people are properly registered and can vote in my Republican run county how about yours?

The government nor the citizens have a duty or obligation to coddle people who cannot be responsible in their own lives. It's up to the individual citizen to take the responsibility and properly qualify to vote in their own voting district just like the rest of.

Nevada's vote-by-mail primary stirs fraud concerns, as unclaimed ballots pile up: 'Something stinks here'

Red flags are being raised about the all-mail voting system being used in Nevada’s most populous county ahead of the state’s June 9 primary election amid reports that thousands of ballots are being sent to inactive voters -- fueling concerns about the possibility of voter fraud and ballot harvesting.

Thousands of ballots have been sent out by the Clark County Election Department to inactive voters – those who have not voted in recent elections, a roster that can include people who either have moved or are deceased – and the envelopes are piling up in post office trays, outside apartment complexes and on community bulletin boards in and around Las Vegas.

HOW BALLOT HARVESTING HELPED DEMS ROUT GOP IN CALIFORNIA

The excess ballots have drawn complaints from local residents, who worry that anyone could pick up a ballot off the street and cast a fraudulent vote, as well as from Republican Party officials in the state who see a nefarious motive behind the vote-by-mail system being employed by the Democrat-dominated Clark County Commission........

Yes it does. Did you have a comment about it? When the election officials lose control of ballots that makes it ripe for fraud.
