Why did it take 11 years for the Mexican Independence to be successful?

The war for mexican independence last 11 years, but why did it take so long to be successful? I'm looking for the exact reasons for this. I looked online but it doesn't state a chief reason for my question.

    Help, please :)

Mainly because it was on the verge of dying many times. It took a wealthy and respected man like Agustin de Iturbide to finally unite the poor, rebellious lower classes with the wealthy, Roman Catholic, Spanish upper classes under the Plan of Three Guarantees to finally drive out the Spanish.

He is, in my mind, the father of Mexican independence.
