The simple reason is that, as in 2016, the winner in 2020 received 306 electoral votes.

On December 11th of 2016, Trump characterized a 306 total thusly:

“We had a massive landslide victory, as you know, in the Electoral College!”

The reality that the winner in 2020 received nearly 7 million more votes than the loser, and the reality that the winner in 2016 had received nearly 3 million fewer votes than the loser is merely an index of relative popularity, and of no pertinent, elective consequence, of course.

 

I blame populism. Populism provoked a strong enough reaction from the left to mobilize after they had been threatened. That was enough to get Biden elected.

COVID was only the catalyst, his incompetence is what cost him. In times of crisis the US typically backs the president, that he still lost and so significantly is a true testament to how much he failed.

Biden would have allowed travel to and from China and there is no way we would have had testing and vaccines faster with that brain stem running things.

 

If H1N1 would have been more lethal he probably wouldn’t have won either if he has been as incompetent as trump was.
