You have a childish view of God. God doesn't interfere with the world much.

I have a childish view of god?? God does not interfere with the world much? People are ALWAYS praying for exactly this sort of interference with the world. And if something good happens, they are thanking god. This is not a few people....it is virtually all Christians virtually all the time! Just earlier in this thread there was a discussion about how the notre dame fire and lack of protection was connected to unbelievers in france. We were told how god allowed the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem to punish the jews, we are told that god peeks into each of our bedrooms to see what we are up to, we are told how god will tally up our performance here on earth and judge us....

And you say that i have a childish view of god?

But it's true that you don't believe in God, right?

    Yes, how about you?

Btw, if there is a god, I certainly do not think that the creator of the universe cares about my opinions

So you're asking about why something you don't believe in didn't do something.

Why did the Easter Bunny only leave me 2 peeps instead of 3?

Yes, i am soliciting answers from those who do believe....
if people believe in the easter bunny leaving peeps,
I think it is legitimate to ask them about their beliefs

From the start of this thread i have been clear that the Notre Dame fire seems inconsistent with god as he is proposed to exist.

Various people have responded that i do not understand god. This is obviously true.
Otoh, no one who does understand god had stepped forward to share their understanding

One poster has posited that god does not get involved with day to day events here on earth.
This is fine, as far as it goes. Except that view of god is inconsistent with the what most people claim about god. In other words.... on one hand i am supposed to believe that god does care about my bedroom habits, on the other hand he does not care about Notre Dame burning?

What do you refer to than many disagree about
I think the world is round and older than 6,000 years.... and you are correct that many people disagree with me about these opinions

It says in Isaiah "the Lord sits upon the CIRCLE of the earth", and the Bible doesn't say how old the earth is. Neither of these questions are relevant to the Bible's main message, which is reconciling fallen man to God through faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ on the cross, and His resurrection that we celebrate Sunday.

How is it you say we can't know anything about God, but the fire is inconsistent with how He would act? Which is it? It has already been said here God allowed His temple to be destroyed twice, why not a Paris cathedral?

Interesting that when Jesus predicted not one stone of the temple would be left standing on each other, it actually happened in 70AD at the time of the Roman conquest. There was so much precious metal in the temple that the fire caused it to melt into the cracks of the stone. The Romans used crowbars to separate the stones to get at it.

Maybe God saw the blatant waste of the resources that should be going to the poor.

Maybe God thought Catholicism was satanic

I'm not a Catholic, but they do a whole lot for the poor, they run one-sixth of the US healthcare system.

God doesn’t exist. So you don’t need to worry about what a nonexistent entity thinks about anything.

Ok, as long as god doesn’t have anything to do with public policy

    https://www.christianpost.com/news/...on-annually-lobbying-in-dc-study-finds-62750/

The fact is that it is a political death sentence to ignore religious special interest groups. Our policy regarding israel is set by both christian and Jewish lobbyists. Donald trump was elected BECAUSE he explicitly pandered to religious groups. Religious groups have been insisting that evolution not be taught... and/or that creationism should be taught as science. Religious groups have mightily tried to insure that birth control cannot be taught... or be part of any health insurance plan.

The following video is a prayer given in response to the election of a muslim legislator. It is pretty obvious that such people go to extreme lengths to shape policy. And, for that matter, the same is true for the powerful people that chose her for this high profile opening prayer

But your question was, "Why didn’t god save Notre Dame?"

How could a Pennsylvania person have anything to do with that question?

You said i do not need to worry about god because i do not believe

I responded that it is fine as long as god has nothing to do with public policy

You said it cannot because it doesn't exist

In i posted how god does impact government policies and my life... despite not existing and provided examples of such impacts

    ——
Given that there are such impacts.... imo opinion it is fair to publicly wonder if the basis for those impacts makes any sense?
And a starting point for examining that question was my original post wondering about gods puzzling inaction in protecting Notre Dame. If we are going to continue to hear religious people promote policies based on “god”.... then it is fair to ask them about that basis... despite my own skepticism on gods existence and or his apparent indifference to what goes on upon this earth

Prayer isn't like dropping a quarter in a vending machine. A good quote on the subject from CS Lewis, for those interested in more than flame baiting:

"Prayers are not always....."granted". This is not because prayer is a weaker kind of causality, but because it is a stronger kind. When it "works" at all it works unlimited by space and time. That is why God has retained a discretionary power of granting or refusing it. Except on that condition prayer would destroy us. It is not unreasonable for a headmaster to say, "Such and such things you may do according to the fixed rules of this school. But such and such other things are too dangerous to be left to general rules. If you want to do them you must come and make a request and talk over the whole matter with me in my study. And then - we'll see."
