I have to say this is fairly inexplicable to me, we have a disease, we have a remedy, so why not take it?
On TV interviews with various unvaxxed folks, the most common reason I've heard was that they were afraid of it.
The most common reason I heard was that they already had covid and thus natural immunity. Second most reasons I heard was they were waiting to see what would come out of it over time...they didn't trust the short testing period. Third reason was they saw other people get adverse reactions from it.
I seriously doubt the thousands of Detroit residents who refuse to get the shot do so cause they watch Fox. Cnn, pmsnbc, abc is much more like it
Ok. Well I have met people at work, at Churc, extended family members and acquaintances and have heard different concerns.
The wife and I received the shots, we knew they weren't 100% guaranteed to stop and prevent. But the shots helped prevent and if one did get COVID, it would be in a milder form. A no brainier. Now I do think distrust of the government has a lot to do with folks not getting vaccinated. That distrust has been there a very long time. Then you have those who just don't like being told what to do. Here's the history of trust in government. https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/05/17/public-trust-in-government-1958-2021/ The fact is a majority of Americans don't trust their own government. We haven't since Watergate. I think most of us view our government as politicians being in it for themselves and for their political party and not for the people or the country as a whole.
Ok, some don't trust the government....so what exactly do they think the government is trying to do to them by having them vaccinated against diseases? Don't they know those "Secret Microchips" ( ) could've already been planted in their flu vaccines? Their beer? Their pot? Their grease filled food? Their booze? ....
I am unVaxxed and I was tempted to plead guilty to "Paranoid distrust of the government/establishment?" but I went with "Other." That is a much better explanation for my reasoning. I dropped an e-mail to Nova Scotia's Premier, N.S. Minister of Heath and my own M. L. A. a few days ago to explain my own reasoning. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...y-ceo-and-board.592016/page-2#post-1072981483 During the 1990's my own immune system was very weak so that two minute and twelve second video from the doctor who was trained at the Mayo Clinic really has me thinking that I must be willing to lose my job in order to avoid several of the Covid 19 vaccines.
I'd love to know the percentages on which groups get the vaccine and which don't, I know some minorities might oppose the vaccine for historical reasons but most of the anti-vaxxers you see are white?
I trust my immune system to handle covid more than I trust the pharmaceutical corporations to put out a safe product and also more than I trust the government to effectively regulate corporations. If this virus were deadlier, like ebola for example, I may not trust my immune system to handle it. But this isn't ebola. Its far more like the flu, and I've never taken a flu vaccine either, for precisely the same reasons. Additionally this vaccine aint like all the others. Traditional vaccines introduce a weakenned virus so your body can learn to kill it without the virus posing (much of) a threat. This 'vaccine' (not sure why they even call it that since it doesn't do what vaccines do...) just reprograms your cells to manufacture a part of the virus which they can then 'practice' on. The last thing I want is a corporation reprogramming any part of me...
Because it's not that simple. It's definitely not a cure, and the actual effectiveness is probably much less than you think it is. Some people don't want something injected into them that is going to be constantly stimulating a low level immune response. That sort of thing is not really the best (think auto-immune diseases and higher chances of arthritis). This vaccine is unlike other vaccines in many ways. The disease in question is also not as terrible as several other diseases for which vaccines exist. Did you read any of those threads where it was calculated the risk to benefit ratio was not worth it for younger people?
Uhmmm..... There is pretty much a limitless number of thing we can do but just because we CAN do it is not a reason TO do it. Just because you can vote for Biden does not mean you should.
Anti vaxxers have traditionally been white. It's been a lefty thing for years. Ever since the Lancet article implying that childhood vaccines were a cause of Autism. In fact, the governor of California has not had his daughter vaccinated! "The California governor “said his own daughter, who recently turned 12 years old and is eligible for the vaccine, has not yet received it because she has a series of other shots to get first,” the news outlet reported."
Because they're Stuping ****id and Trump was vaguely against the vaccine at one point when he thought he might make money off a "cure". I have to say I truly don't understand this These people are quite possibly giving themselves an agonizing and fatal disease in order to curry favor with a faroff Billionaire who will never know they exist and wouldn't care if he did
No clue. I guess the reasons for not taking the shot are as varied as the individuals themselves. My Wife and I weighed the pluses and minuses and decided to take the shot. No problems. I think though that mandating the shot is unconstitutional and unAmerican. It intrudes into the livlihoods and liberty of people, and is as wild eyed, cultish and as much an over reaction as those who see the matter as a government conspiracy. I'm convinced that in allowing our lives in liberty and science to roll on, it will all work out for the best in the end.
I voted paranoid distrust of the government, but really it is more than that. Ultimately it is disinformation pure and simple, and it is not just towards vaccines. Ultimately I would rank disinformation as one of the top 3 greatest threats to the US right now, and a good argument can be made for it being the top threat. It isn't just the government, it is the government, religion, and the people.
What remedy is that? the shots don't seem to actually do much. Vaccinated folks are getting really sick, going to hospitals, and dying. That doesn't seem to be much of a remedy.
It reminds me - when I was on a biking trip in France I spoke to French guy who refused to be vaccinated. Intelligent guy and he brought logical arguments against the vaccine - it was unapproved by FDA, usually to approve vaccine takes years, he knew some cases where approved medications turned deadly. He was just afraid of it. It sounded reasonable, but the guy was smoking cigarettes! I just wonder how many people who refuse to vaccinate smoke cigarettes.
