In 1940 we had put Japan into a very difficult position, and they responded in the way we expected, and we had left a lot of battleships 2,500 miles from the continental US, in Hawaii which was not a US state back then, ships that we did not have enough oil to keep at sea. In 2001 we were attacked by our allies, it is too recent and to emotive to discuss further. I would suggest that no country, small or large is going to attack us. And we do now have a Department of Homeland Security, whereas previously the Department of Defense was not responsible for defense. The other fear is that we will starve. Really?
You left out a few very important options. A second wave of tRumplings attacking the US capitol when they lose the next election. The creeping fascism taking over places like Florida and Texas. The dumbass rednecks who will shoot you because you turned down the wrong driveway or knocked on the wrong door. just to name a few.
The greatest threat this country faces is the threat from internal lawlessness which goes largely unpunished. This growing background of crime and violence weakens everything else, causes all our other problems, and lets decay and rot to set in. No other country can defeat us, yet, but we are in the process of defeating ourselves. Really punish crime and you'll get less of it!

Depends on who you ask. Populists fear gays, blacks and immigrants more than anything. Personally I do not have anything to fear, because I don't buy into the propaganda which promotes fear agenda. Well, the rise of RW authoritarianism is a cause of consern, but I think it will be soon be rejected by We The People. The only people who should fear gangs are the rival gangs, and maybe those who live in gang neighborhoods . Gangs stick to their territory, so there is no reason for regular people to fear them.

Its fear, - the manufactured kind. It is created by propagandists who repeat stuff (for example) about an army of pedophiles systematically grooming children which is BS of course. You need to have people living in fear in order to control them. Once they shake in fear, you can present yourself as the knight in shiny armor (the government) as their savior, and they are sure to vote for you.

Real danger is when it is unexpected, like when white supremacists pretending to worship, shoot up a black church, killing dozens. all of his minions can drool and get aroused when a white supremacist videos himself killing dozens of mosque goers or when an atomic bomb launched by white supremacists from a 100 miles lands on your city. That's danger.
Yes, I forgot to mention the white man persecution thingy, but I did mention their fear of blacks. I'm white and people can 'bash' whites all they want and it runs off like water off a ducks back. I see them cry to the government to create a law to criminalize everything they don't like and even laws to criminalize criticism of themselves.

Guns are not banned, and won't be. Lately the big daddy government mindset has been coming almost exclusively from the populist side. Latest example is MO government banning drags from reading books to kids, which turned out to be something which has never happened in that State. They created a law to criminalize something which never happened.

The ppl taken captive in America by white supremacists were Jews (Iberian) that were exiled to Africa in 1492 (Spanish inquisition) and yes, America was still a white supremacist nation when they dropped the bomb. In fact, many would argue that America is STILL a white supremacist nation. The messages I see on social media by white americans would indicate that a vast majority of white in America are indeed, white supremacists. Prove me wrong!
