Lets play a game called "name that fallacy." In this case, non sequitur. lol at Obama being a communist. Yeah, leaving the Bush tax cuts in place is a total communist thing to do, and giving up on public option for healthcare, total communism. Actually, most of our presidents have had religion play a back seat in their policies. While they were Christians, their christianity did not effect what they stood for. The more we get to that, to where religion doesn't matter, the closer we get to having an Atheist president. But truth be told, once we get to the point where religion doesn't matter, than being an atheist doesn't matter.
Jefferson? So we have never had a black president, does that mean the founders wanted a white leadership? The argument is ridiculous, correlation does not equal causation. You have failed for a third time to point out where the founders based the Constitution on the bible.
Everyone basically ignores what part of Jefferson they don't like (his ideas don't fit neatly into modern society). He attempted to create a bible based completely around the words of Jesus, deleting all supernatural stories. He wasn't subtle. But fundamentalists still think he was a Christian in the sense that they are (really he was a deist who liked Christian morals but despised organized religion). Barring that, they just attempt to delete him from history, as the Texas school boards have tried.
I don't disagree. America was founded by a diverse group of folks on rational principles (some of which are Christian, some not).
What are you talking about? Do you even understand what atheism is? Atheists in the United States share the same basic beliefs as everyone else when it comes to government. And they can be conservative or liberal. It's just that conservatives tend to homophobic and religious zealots, so that would turn atheists off to joining the party. And they generally try to take anti-scientific stances, with no justification except that big business doesn't like or it my holy book says it's wrong. You have 0 evidence that these people "do not share any of the basic tenets of the American people at large." As to an atheist being elected, that is only because Americans in general are kind of ignorant when it comes to religion. They like for Presidents to openly say they are Christian, even when most of the time in recent history it's probably not true. It's just done to pander to voters who don't have the intellectual capacity to deal with a President who may not believe in God.
Why not? An atheist thinks for himself and usually won't try to force their beliefs on the people. Christians usually want to evangelize. And also for example doing a religious ceremony for everybody when something bad passed... but well sure that not everybody was of that religion in that act.
