The big reason relief is gridlocked is Repubs don't want the relief bill to be as generous
as dems want it to be.

The big reason it is gridlocked is because of McConnell.

The president has said he will sign a more generous bill, so what is McConnell's problem, who, has stated in the past that the big reason he stalls on bills is that he doesn't want to send a bill to Trump that he won't sign. But, Trump said he would, so what is the problem?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/09/16/trump-stimulus-payment-economic-relief/

“I like the larger amount, I’ve said that,” Trump said. “Some of the Republicans disagree, but I think I can convince them to go along with that because I like the larger number. I want to see people get money.”

But, he said it before the election, does he say it now?

No, the underlying reason is we have a divided government. The House is controlled by the Democrats, and the Senate is controlled by the Republicans. That results in a stalemate in our legislative branch. Very little gets done.

Georgians will decide if we have a divided government for at least another two years. If they elect one Republican in the Senate runoff Jan. 5, we will have a deadlocked Congress for two more years.

If that is the case, maybe Americans will get a stimulus bill passed in 2003.

Actually it's Pelosi holding it up because she wants Biden to pass it, not Trump.

She has already agreed to his plan which is less than the republicans are asking for and Trump is the only one that wants to spend money and give people stimulus checks.

He seems to be the only one that gets it.

Because, now that we have a Dem president, Republicans all of a sudden re-discovered the importance of the deficit. Plus, they want to hurt blue states that were hit hard early in the pandemic, by denying state aid. Party before country, that's how it's always been for the GOP.

Didn't used to be that way. Anyone remember Tip O'neill? Howard Baker? they used to work stuff out, back then.

No, because we can't go 4 more weeks of no relief. She's not that cruel, though you think she is.

Yesterday I sent a letter to my representative in the House of Representatives and the Majority Leader telling them to pass a smaller stimulus bill and get it done now, even one without Stimulus checks, and then save that discussion for when they come back in January 2021. I guess that's why the news reports a frantic negotiation in Congress about the next stimulus deal.

Here's the note:
I've sent such messages before, so I should have known then that this only serves to get the Democrats and Republicans in Congress to talk to each other. Then, instead of passing something for the people, they use the opportunity to get on the same page with making up a story, a facade, to tell the public while passing around and sharing in corruption behind the scenes.

Republicans of course want to see most of the money go to their mega-donors.

Republicans blame Democrats
Democrats blame Republicans

Meanwhile millions of Americans are suffering while all of these politicians are doing things like buying fancy ice cream and using insider info to make millions

The future of this country is bleak if this divide continues to get worse

Trump wants to give stimulus checks and Pelosi doesn't, what is there to get backwards?

Why is Covid relief bill gridlocked?
It does seem a little strange, even if understandable. After all Pelosi admitted that now that Trump is no longer president (her words) she feels she can start thinking about the people.

It is the generosity to state and local governments that is the issue.

As well as Pelosi

I believe I explained that above.

She, being the one declaring McConnell's bill isn't anywhere near enough. All she is doing is fighting for those in need, who are suffering through no fault of their own ( the virus ). Individuals and states are suffering. States can't 'create fiat money' like the gov can so they are hemorrhaging in red ink and it's not sustainable because most state constitutions require them to balance their budgets, they will be forced to cut services, lay off police, fire, gov employees, then more people filing for unemployment, and the whole thing comes tumbling down, and McConnell doesn't seem to understand the gravity of the problem, noting that he'd have no problem funding the military, or granting tax cuts to the superrich. My gawd, one can only conclude republicans are crazy.

God bless her. Perhaps she is willing to pay for bailing out the states herself. I would seriously resent paying for it with my tax money. Well managed states (such as the one I call home) have no serious financial problems. Poorly managed states should live with the consequences of that poor management and work their way out of it like a company would have to do.

And, since the states are taxing entities themselves, it is an inappropriate role for federal government to get in involved with their revenue stream. But then most of what federal government goes beyond what I view as its appropriate role.

If that is the case why does McConnell refuse to allow a vote in the Senate on the bi partisan relief bill sponsored by Senators and Reps from both parties?

There is zero question the democrat held up the stimulus for political reasons prior to the election. What has happened in the last month in terms of negotiations should have happened in August.

You mean how democrats denied passing any bill that wasn't over 2 trillion prior to the election but now are fine with one under a trillion?

What changed.

The election.

Everyone resents paying for it, and with the 1%ers owning $34Trillion of the nation's wealth ( 30% ) and the bottom half owning less than 2% ( < $1.8 Trillion ) THEY should shoulder this burden.

Pelosi has agreed to the smaller bill because she says Biden won.

I am wondering, why is it that farmers in red states are being bailed out with tax payers' money, when trump actually caused their problem, or when they were hit by a flood, without any complaint from Dems, but if the state of NY has lost countless dollars in tax revenue from being hit hard and early by the pandemic without testing available, the red staters want to close their wallets and cry about moral hazard? Do you have fun hurting people in other states that voted against your liking? Why should companies be bailed out that lost revenue through no fault of their own, but states shouldn't be, even though they have also no way to make up for the shortfall? In which world does this make sense?
