She's not effing stoic; she's been in office for so long now, as Home Sec. and now PM, and feted, fooled, and flattered in Brussels by men in suits (who were really laughing at her behind her back), she's become delusional and megalomaniacal. There certainly are wiser heads in the Tory party and the are keeping them down as they do not want to carry the can for the toxic Brexit deal! They will only emerge after Brexit is over to claim it was all her fault.
Sadly too true. In this case Theresa May seems to have cut a deal that pretty much no-one wants. Remoaners like me are very unhappy about it because we lose things like our seamless ability to travel and work in the EU (almost all of my company's business is selling services to non-UK EU countries, something not protected by Theresa May's deal) while having an economic situation which is likely to be worse than the current situation - so more money for less benefit. Hardline Brexiteers are unhappy because it seems that we will be joined to the hip to Europe for the immediate foreseeable future and while we appear to be gaining some "control over our laws and borders" (though in truth the UK supported the overwhelming majority of EU legislation), the EU still has significant influence. In my opinion there were only two possible and internally consistent "solutions" to Brexit: Abandon the idea entirely and say that it was impossible to deliver to the British people the Brexit they voted for (the one where they got "control over our laws and borders" and there were considerable and immediate economic benefits for doing so Go for a "no deal" Brexit and accept that the significant short to medium term economic and political turmoil is a price worth paying for "control over our laws and borders"
I completely agree. I wanted to leave and always have but if this is the best deal she can achieve then I would rather just stay in. It was ridiculous to have a referendum on the European Union when we have never had one regarding the terms of our membership. Who was ever asked about the Lisbon Treaty?
To paraphrase May's mantra, Brexit means Brexit-lite. The Establishment intends us to stay in, and that's what it's going to be. And where's Nigel Farage when you need him? Thankfully we have Jacob Rees-Mogg and David Davis et al on hand to expose this breath-taking and shameful betrayal. If May gets her way it will be a case of 'Brexit by any other name.'
