This article surprised me as I never really thought about this. The article says women tend to seek jobs in teaching or journalism whereas men go into computer science and engineering. With PCs in almost every household, why don't women use them more? Read the article @ http://readwrite.com/2014/09/02/women-in-computer-science-why-so-few and tell us what you think.
What are you talking about. Every TV show has an episode or two with a computer hacker who is always some hot chick.
Using a computer is a world away from Computer Science (and even further from actual engineering), ever more so with ever developing interfaces. You don't need to have the slightest idea about the inner workings of a computer or the software to use it effectively and indeed most people don't (including many who think they do!). I think there always has and always will be a tendency for boys to be attracted to technical things and girls to more emotive ones. That is only a tendency and there is (and should be) plenty of overlap but it's enough to skew the gender balance. I think there is (more) work that can be done to reduce the cultures in some areas which come about as a result of the gender imbalance so those individuals who do go again the flow aren't discouraged from following their preference. Even if that kind of thing was perfect though, I think there would still be a noticeable gender imbalance in a lot of fields and I don't think that is anything to worry about.
Agreed, if even if we could remove all the cultural barriers built to impede women there will always be those careers women prefer over others, the same applies to men....
