Why the Masked and the Unmasked Have Disdain for Each Other

The utter irrationality of mask advocacy is the single greatest reason the anti-mask people hold mask advocates in contempt. How else should one regard adults who believe that two-year-olds on airplanes and five-year-olds in schools should be masked?

Watching half of our fellow Americans accept and engage in such irrational behavior (not to mention sometimes hysterically enforce it, as myriad social media videos attest) not only depresses the rest of us; it frightens us. That more than half of our country willingly obeys completely irrational orders raises the question: What irrational orders from the state would they not obey?

Dennis Prager is so perfectly right about this issue. He sums up the differences between mask wearers who are also wannabe coercers and those who do not wear them. I agree with the non mask wearers and am one of them.

 

For the pro mask enforcers it’s all about power and control. Those who still even now are guilt shaming or coercing others to also do so, are inner fascists feeling a desperate need to have some kind of power or control over some or all aspects of the lives of others.

 

I approached a guy who was wearing a mask as he was driving and asked why he's donning a mask that says on the box it does not prevent covid transmission.

He said he knew this but didn't want to look like an anti vaxxer.

The left is big on virtue signaling. It's how they communicate with each other.

They do it to feel better about themselves.

 

That’s true. I remember when they first started letting people go w/o masks after the initial outbreak and there were democrats who still were wearing masks outdoors because they didn’t want to appear as a Republican as most of us removed ours earlier when Governors beat the CDC in making that decision.

 

Don't lump it all as masked v unmasked. We are not all the same. And not all RW.
Now if you said RW unmasked v unmasked, you'd be closer.

I typically will be unmasked. But when the virus was new and unknown, I wore a mask where required and no other place.
And I care less if one wears a mask or not wear a mask. Only that they abide by the rules of the place they wish to go into.
If an antimasker doesn't want to follow the owners rules, then go elsewhere.

 

There is no proof masks work. Any requirement is virtue signaling, doing things for the sake of doing them.

I have no disdain for mask afficianados. I don't wear one, I don't care what the person next to me does. I do find the masked solo drivers with their gloves on somewhat amusing, however.

 

That's a perfectly reasonable position.

 

I don't have disdain for the masked, I would never look down on someone for doing something personally to avert disease. That's their business.

 

What it boils down to is this.... They have capitulated and submitted, you are a visual reminder of that and they are angry that not everyone is doing what they're doing.

Heard mentality at its finest. Why hire a bunch of enforcers when you can get the people to do it for you?

We will blacklist you we will ostracize you, we will shun you and give you dirty looks and do all we can to rise up against you.

 

Or people wearing a mask riding a bicycle all by themselves outside.

There is a difference between those who voluntarily wear them for their own reasons and those who not only wear them but then try to force or guilt shame everyone else into wearing them regardless of what we think or want.

 

Public health no longer has anything to do with it. Now it’s all about coercing lockstep obedience to their statist will.

 

More who want to minimize or even deny China’s role in the creation, cover up, and spread of the virus to the world.

There is freedom and there is FFRRREEEDDDOMMM. The first is a major value of the Western world and has made all our lives much better. I would die for it as would most of you. The second is an irrational shout by a man wearing a "Chewbacca bikini"

The US is 4% of the world's population, but has 20% of the current daily new covid cases. In other words, the US is the world's super-spreader. Your post exactly shows why this is the case.

 

Yes there is data surrounding masks. N95 respirator masks have been measured to be 85% effective. Regular N95 and KN85 are somewhat less effective. They aren't comfortable but they do work for the most part. The cloth and paper masks people actually wear have been measured to be between 5% to to 15% effective depending on the number of layers. They do not work for the most part. Masks are not a very effective way to fight a virus. The best approach is vaccination.
