Why would I worship and love a "God" who ordered infanticide?

Beating and Killing Slaves: Although an owner could beat a male or female slave, she/he would have to avoid serious injury to eyes or teeth. The owner would have to avoid beating the slave to death. But it was acceptable to beat a slave so severely that it only disabled him or her for two days:
bullet Exodus 21:20-21 "And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money [property]."
bullet Exodus 21:26-27 "And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake."

bullet Emancipation of Slaves: Slaves in ancient Israel were automatically emancipated after 6 years of slavery, but only if they were Jewish. However, if the slave owner "gave" the slave a wife, the owner could keep the wife and any children as his property.

Passages in Exodus state that female slaves who were sold into slavery by their fathers would be slaves forever. A corresponding passage in Exodus contradicts this; it required female slaves to be given their freedom after 6 years.

One could purchase a slave from a foreign nation or from foreigners living with them. These slaves would remain in slavery forever, unless the owner chooses to frees them An Israelite who was a slave could be freed by a family member or by himself if he had the money. The cost of freeing a slave was computed on the basis of the number of years to the next Jubilee Year; this could be 1 to 50 years. Male Israelite slaves were automatically freed during the Jubilee Year. Depending upon which verse was being followed, female Israelite slaves might also have been freed at that time as well. Foreign slaves were out of luck.
bullet Exodus 21:1-4: "If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself."
bullet Deuteronomy 15:12-18: "And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him."

Who is saying that? I agree with the atheist Sam Harris' statement that there is a direct link between Islamic theology and Muslim terror. Do you?

But by accepting the ages of the "Patriarchs"....back to Adam....you accept Adam's "birth year" as determined from the Jewish calender or founding of Israel...

which puts Adam's "birth year" around 4000 BCE.....now?

Was Adam created the same WEEK as the Earth....as the Bible says or was the Bible inaccurate?

Nobody says that. Stalin was an atheist. Just like the Salem Witch Trial judges were Protestants. The Spanish Inquisitors were Catholics.

Those last two are denied by dishonest Christian apologists though.

Where does the Old Testament ban slavery?

    - - - Updated - - -

So you deny anybody says that....then YOU say that?!?!?!?

Not me. The Salem trials killed about what Stalin killed ever 15 minutes.

Didn't say it did, it bans slave trading. Many people in the OT voluntarily sold themselves into slavery for a set time to pay off debt, others were POWs, like the US did.

I'm asking you to show me who on this forum is saying that, can you? Want to answer my Sam Harris question now? The late Christopher Hitchens was also very good on the dangers of radical Islam.

Uhhh because that doesn't fit his description. He said that type of eunuch was born this from his mothers womb. You're not born as an elderly man with erectile dysfunction. Furthermore why would having erectile dysfunction preclude you from getting married?

That makes no sense whatsoever. However if he's talking about homosexuals, who consistently claim they're "born that way", that DOES fit his description. Further it makes perfect sense that he would say homosexuals shouldn't get married.

Oh Hell...next thing we know you'll be saying the floggings, public hangings of innocent young women, the Crusades, Inquisitions etc. weren't committed by Christians. Go further.....while Hitler was killing Jews by the millions he professed Catholicism.

All pagans masquerading as Christians. Wicked people will use anything to get into positions of power, that's what makes them wicked. Although before idolatry you could say they were closer to Christianity but that was before the inquisitions I think

You believe the Bible is accurate on the ages of the "patriarchs" of the Old Testament, including Adam? If you back-date those ages....

when was Adam "born"? What year...approximately?

"Real Christians only do good things." It's an easy out for those who excuse all the atrocities throughout history by Christians.

Back ON TOPIC....it's similar to the argument mady by Apologists who say that God ordering the deliberate massacre of children "wasn't evil, because God did it."

But I find that argument equally flawed as the other.

The theory of western Christianity being a hoax is not uncommon. The bible says something similar in that we should be careful of those who call themselves Jews but are actually of satan. Interesting stuff. Like pedo's that infiltrate teaching and caring industry

    So you're pro-life?

    - - - Updated - - -

Exactly. The abuse of an idea doesn't invalidate that idea.

I have no clue, and don't see how the question is relevant to the Bible's main purpose of reconciling man to God.

How did the first non-life become life?

So that would make Adam about 4 billion years old...and that is probably not actually true, because I don't even think Abe Vigoda is that old.

Sure, as soon as you explain to me how a woman taking RU-486 at 5 weeks is "evil".....

but God ordering the deaths of 100s or 1000s of actual born babies and older children is "not evil".

So at least we can all agree that god is probably the worst communicator in history, if you have no idea how old the earth is yet they claim god told them the whole story about the earth's formation, apparently.

"I have no clue and don't see how the question is relevant"

Done so well in the film "Inherit the Wind" (1960) by Fredric March-

Matthew Harrison Brady (Fredric March): I do not think about things I do not think about.

Henry Drummond (Spencer Tracy): Do you ever think about things that you do think about?

Well, Mr. Smarty pants, if religious people ADMIT that god is not moral, then that imperils their chances of surviving their own death that said immoral being promised them if they tow the line and worship him. We can't let logic and reason imperil our chances of surviving our own death!! WE CAN'T HAVE THAT, NOW CAN WE!!!?

The box Old Earth Creationists put themselves in. If "a day" in Genesis meant "million of years"....

then why is a "day" in other parts of the Bible NOT "millions of years" and "years"...billions of years?

If Adam was 100s of "years" old...and a "day" in Genesis is "millions of years"....then 365 times millions of years....would put ol Adam on the low side of close to a TRILLION years old.

    - - - Updated - - -

True.....if a God can order the deaths of 100s or 1000s of children....on a whim....

why couldn't He suddenly decide to send to Hell people even if they are "saved"?

Jesus was not consistent (approved of slavery, and killing gays - or he would have of course spoken up about those atrocities, being a self-proclaimed moral teacher and all), so how can we ask HIS FOLLOWERS to be consistent? That's not being very, well, uh, consistent. Let's just realize that they are often not consistent, and that they are duly following their very inconsistent belief system (at least give them that.) They are consistently inconsistent....which one has to be to be religious.

She's killing her own baby, real mothers don't do that. The time for "choice" is before conception.

Was what we did at Hiroshima evil? Once again, the irony of those who think a woman should be able to 'do with her own body' what she wants, yet refuse that right to God as far as His creation.

Correct as usual. And then that would make the 950 "year"-old NOAH like, like, I don't know, a million years old or something (look, I'm no good at math, ok.)

    MOD EDIT - Rule 3

Jesus never told the Roman government to do anything, and said His kingdom was not of this world. It was however, Christian principles that eventually led to the end of slavery. In the UK, Lord Melbourne was outraged that Wilberforce dared to inject his Christian values about slavery and human equality on British society, and said, "Things have come to a pretty pass, when one should permit one's religion to invade public life."

But what if she was RAPED (say on Moses' orders in the OT for his minions to take the virgins for themselves)?
