will "god bless america", if there are many atheists in government?

Proverbs 25:4 Take away the atheist before the king,
And his (the king's) throne will be established in righteousness

Will God Continue to bless America if the Atheists are in charge according to the bible?

The early beginnings of this blessed nation were established by religious christian groups escaping persecution from Europe, and god was always a part of their daily lives.

When God laid the law of Moses with a strong hand bending and in some cases destroying those who oppose to his law he proclaimed
the fifth commandment "honor your father and mother"

he cannot have said it any clearer than that.

But again, if you are an atheist, or a modern day Judas, none of this matters to you.

If you believe that atheists are gaining influence in this country, how can you believe we're "blessed" by God? Why is he allowing this to happen?

Actually it matters quite a lot to atheists. If the answer to your question is no, what will the consequences be for atheists? Will they be denied access to government or decision making? Treated as second-class citizens? Locked up for the public good? Or, if our very presence is so disruptive to a "righteous" nation, maybe something even more extreme?

(Isn't this in entirely the wrong section by the way?)

I don't know. Maybe you should ask the Islamists how they manage things in Iran.

Generally speaking, it's a really bad idea to view government in terms of fundamentalist religion unless you want to work toward a theocracy.

By the way, those same religious refugees often did their own version of oppression to the natives.

Yes, God was certainly part of their daily lives, often in a very unpleasant way.

Every Virginia minister was required to read the "Articles, Lawes and Orders" to his congregation every Sunday, and, among other things, parishioners were reminded that failure to attend church twice each day was punishable in the first instance by the loss of a day's food. A second offense was punishable by a whipping and a third by six months of rowing in the colony's galleys.

Virginia law in 1662 required everyone to resort "diligently to their parish church" on Sundays "and there to abide orderly and soberly," on pain of a fine of fifty pounds of tobacco, the currency of the colony. Colonial strictures on deportment in the pews long applied, even to children, such as in 1758 when young Abiel Wood of Plymouth was hauled before the court for "irreverently behaving himself by chalking the back of one Hezekiah Purrington, Jr., with Chalk, playing and recreating himself in the time of publick worship."

In l668 in Salem, Massachusetts, John Smith and the wife of John Kitchin were fined "for frequent absenting themselves from the public worship of God on the Lord's days." In l682 in Maine it cost Andrew Searle five shillings merely for "wandering from place to place" instead of "frequenting the publique worship of god."

And woe to the man who profaned the Sabbath "by lewd and unseemly behavior," the crime of a Boston seafaring man, one Captain Kemble. He made the mistake of publicly kissing his wife on returning home on a Sunday after three years at sea, a transgression that earned him several hours of public humiliation in the stocks.

Ahh the good old days...sort of makes you pine for a good old-fashioned theocracy doesn't it?

Likely every type of sinner one could list, has been in power in America, from the beginning.

In essence, I'd like to see MANY MORE Christians (consistently) take on the 'character' of Christ, as if that really mattered to them.

You claim to be a Biblical and God-fearing person, yet you drastically misquote the Bible?

Proverbs does not contain the word "atheist." Verse 4 does not even bear any similarity to what you posted.

What does the Bible say about liars, hmm?

    Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Your god is just as imaginary as Thor.

No one is blessing American now, neither will anyone if a large number of secular people controlled the government.

With the type of government that we have.....its when the PEOPLE lose sight of God is when we are in trouble. We are heading in that direction.

We got into trouble when we decided we knew what God looked like. We'll be fine as long as we understand that we have no idea what God looks like...only then can a meaningful search for him begin.

Anyone who thinks that the Founding Fathers were Christians are entirely misinformed. Many of them were deists who often spoke out against religion, especially Christianity.

It is nonsense that God bless USA. Never did that, because God doesn't exist.

God is a capricious massively insecure egomaniacal prick. Of course he won't bless America of there are too many atheists in government. He gives people Hell for not believing in him. Literally. I mean what do YOU think? Silly question if you ask me. I'm surprised that with His notoriously thin skin and unquenchable thirst for praise and adoration He is able to tolerate any atheists anywhere any time period.

What is a thread on atheism doing in the Gay & Lesbian Civil Rights section? Though I probably can figure out the answer considering the source.

The rest of your post is utter nonsense. The first settlement in English America was established in Virginia by Sir Walter Raleigh and it had nothing to do with religious freedom or escaping religious persecution in Europe. It was for the express purpose of making money through the growing, importation and selling of tobacco (also called at various times the Devil's weed). It became and remains quite a profitable venture. The Pilgrims did come to America to follow religious beliefs other than those of the established Church of England and to avoid the fines for doing so. Of course once they got here they promptly killed and exiled those who did not adhere to their brand of religion. Among those they persecuted were Mary Dyer who was hung in 1660 for being a Quaker and Roger Williams who was exiled for being a Baptist. Are we to believe that God blessed America as a sign of approval for such pious acts?

Your comments on the Ten Commandments and honoring your father and mother are so inarticulate that they are impossible to understand much less respond to.

Finally, correct me if I'm wrong, but Judas, while he was a betrayer, was not an atheist. The real question, that comes to mind, is why any of your pap matters to anyone, theist or atheist? :omg:
